Theatre Research in Canada/Recherches théâtrales au Canada is a forum for scholarly material that draws from the full range of critical and historical approaches applied to the study of theatre as a multidisciplinary art, in the context of the cultures of Canada and Quebec. As such, the journal is committed to the dissemination of empirical research on the history of actors, theatre companies and buildings, chronicles of local theatres, as well as studies of individual playscripts and playwrights. Theatre Research in Canada/Recherches théâtrales au Canada is also committed to broadening of the parameters of theatre scholarship in Canada, through engagement with multi- and interdisciplinary research, studies of cultural specificity and multicultural exchange, investigations of new and emergent technologies in Canadian design and performance, and explorations of theatricality and performativity beyond the traditional contexts of theatre and drama. The journal is also committed to exploring the intersection among history, theory, and practice through increased exchange. University of Toronto Press invites applications for the role of Co-Editor for Theatre Research in Canada / Recherches théâtrales au Canada (TRIC/RTAC), effective July 1, 2025.

TRIC/RTAC is a bilingual, peer-reviewed journal committed to expanding the boundaries of theatre research through interdisciplinary scholarship and critical inquiry. This position seeks applicants with strong research backgrounds, editorial experience, and a forward-looking vision for the journal.

We are continuing to invite submissions of articles and forum pieces for Issue 46.2 (Fall 2025) until February 15, 2025.

Submissions in English and French for both sections are welcome:

• Articles (6,000-8,000 words) that draw from a range of critical academic and research-creation approaches applied to the study of theatre and performance. Submissions are peer reviewed by at least two scholars familiar with the content and/or methodology of the article.

• Forum pieces (3,000-5,000 words) can be position papers, commentary on issues of significance to the journal’s mandate, information about new and old projects, critical interviews, and research notes. Submissions are reviewed by the editorial team.
Special issue proposals for future issues are also welcome.

Theatre Research in Canada\Recherches théâtrales au Canada continues to invite submissions of articles and forum pieces for Issue 46.2 (Fall 2025) and Issue 47.1 (Spring 2026). TRIC/RTAC is Canada’s only peer-reviewed journal with an explicit focus on Canadian and Québécois theatre in both official languages and a dedication to supporting research that explores Indigenous theatre and performance cultures.

Submissions in English and French for both sections are welcome:

Articles (6,000-8,000 words) that draw from a range of critical academic and research-creation approaches applied to the study of theatre and performance. Submissions are peer reviewed by at least two scholars familiar with the content and/or methodology of the article.

Forum pieces (3,000-5,000 words) can be position papers, commentary on issues of significance to the journal’s mandate, information about new and old projects, critical interviews, and research notes. Submissions are reviewed by the editorial team.
