Things were a bit clumsy tonight, but we got through it anyway, starting with a track from not-dead-yet local trio I Have Eaten the City who played just recently for the first time in ages. A section of the much longer work by Serge Bulat was up next and it's well worth listening to the rest. That was followed by a recent release from the new net-label Mnemosyne of new Canadian string quartets played with great feeling by Quatuor Memoire. A newly-available recording from a live 1977 performance by the Axel quintet under the direction of reed player Tony Coe took us to the final piece, also with a title IV, this time from the duo Outliers and their Valve cassette release.

Started off with a seasonal track from a Berlin-based brothers guitar duo, though after 30 years since its release who knows if they're still active; I haven't been able to find anything else by them recently. Then, a local trio who formed after meeting via the Toronto Improvisor's Orchestra, who played earlier in the evening, and followed by a track from the about-to-be-released album from another trio, this time under the direction of reedman Patrick Smith. A long-ish track from an Atlantic-straddling duos new release was followed by the closer from another trio, this time three classic performers from the British scene, recorded live in 1992.

Alright, the audio has been received and is now up for listening via the ES page on CIUT's website or directly at: https://electricsense.podbean.com/

Noisy, glitchy, minimalist, gentle, and rocky; we had it all on this one. Starting off was a really early recording on the Nihilist Spasm Band who had only been around for a year or so at that point. A couple of about-to-be-released discs from the fine Ambiences Magnetiques label, followed by a long track from Rob Gill based on embroidery patterns from Ukraine, and Rob will be giving a talk and playing at the closing of his exhibition of works at The Shevchenko Museum here in Toronto on Friday, December 5th ( https://shevchenko.ca/ ). Finishing up was a set that started with the gentle, minimalist song style of Cecile Seraud, followed by the blistering sounds of King Crimson as arranged by Jerry Pergolesi.

So this was the fall fundraising show; thanks very much to all who contributed, and if you haven't done so yet there's still time via the DONATE button at the station's home page. We are really steaming through this one, so help keep - or even build - the momentum and smash that $100K barrier early. I won't say anything about the individual tracks as this is already kinda late, but check out the archive. Just sorry I couldn't get more of the last piece in.

Listen to it again via the ES page at the CIUT website, or directly via https://electricsense.podbean.com/

Okay, we are now underway with the Fall Fundraising week!! ES will, as ever, be on Wednesday night, when you can donate directly, with online being the preferred method, but you can do it anytime and mention us in the comments when you do so. We are still going for $100K, so please be as generous as your situation allows. Again, if there's anyone out there who wants to come along to help out we'd be more than happy to have you along.

Well, it would seem I was somewhat mistaken in stating that the openers here, Loofka, were actually from Poland; how many members actually are I cannot say (it seems the line-up is variable), but they are apparently based here in Toronto and making such great sounds of which I was totally unaware until just recently. Del Stephen then shook us up with his audio impression of a somewhat unsettling experience, followed by a rather more calming tone from Mr. Mayer. Anna Pidgorna joined with the Ludovico Ensemble on her latest release on Redshift of newly-imagined Ukrainian folk material, and we went out with some intriguing sounds by Annette and Peter's contribution on framework seasonal #12.

Next week is the official Fall Fundraising programme, so if you want to show your support for ES, that will be your chance - though you can do it anytime via the DONATE button on our main site; just be sure to mention the show you are supporting in the comment box! The campaign is off to a roaring start, so help us keep up the momentum with your donation!

A palindromic show this week, starting with a piano-based piece, then two guitar pieces, and concluding with another piano work. We had a great start with Noah's jazz trio from a forthcoming release, then Tim's really (really) long solo opus, a reprise of John's older work played a couple of weeks ago, but this time without an intrusion from someone else, then concluded with an excerpt from Cheryl's interpretation of Linda C. Smith's sinuous solo piano epic.

Athough totally unplanned, this week's show did seem to have a somewhat creepy bent, sometimes with the music, other times just the title, but several had seasonal overtones. Starting off was a track from a forthcoming release by Newfoundland and Labrador composer Ian Foster, then a set of vinyl discs; a couple of 7"-ers that came with Electronic Sound magazine (and may still be available), followed by a couple of 10" EPs by local folks New Fries, and Eucalyptus. Next up, out of France, was The Cry, from an EP of extra tracks that didn't make it onto their previous release, then local lad Harrison Argatoff and his fine ensemble Valley Voice. Things got a bit tight at the end, allowing for only 2/3 of The Tiny Orchestra's tiny track.

Started off this week with an oldie but goodie, from the 801 crew, formed to perform live versions of songs mainly by Phil Manzanera and Brian Eno; this particular one is from Eno's second post-Roxy Music album Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy). We then heard from a forthcoming album by Brennan/McNeill which shows lots of promise for the rest, followed by the latest Piqsiq release, Legends, and finished with Raphael's solo release Lifeblood. The final set started with something from an album of tunes by experimental sound wizard Hainbach augmented with a chamber ensemble to great effect; The duo Outliers followed with some nice unaltered sounds (a fire, and other things) from their recent offering The Use of Ashes, and finished off with Heiki's track from the Quiet Drones 11 compilation - followed by a little bit of Outliers again just to fill up the last few seconds.
