What happens when we apply DSM logic to the things we call “normal”?

This parody diagnoses monogamy—not to pathologize it, but to show how society and MH professionals have historically pathologized difference while romanticizing distress embedded in dominant norms.

What if the DSM applied its own logic consistently? 🩺

Inspired by Moser & Kleinplatz’s 2005 article “Does Heteros*xuality Belong in the DSM?”, this parody asks a simple question with complex implications:

➡️ If “distress,” “impairment,” and “risk” define s*xual disorders… how does heteros*xuality escape diagnosis?

➡️ What does that reveal about who psychiatry centers — and who it pathologizes?

This isn’t about labeling heteros*xuality a disorder — it’s about exposing how normativity disguises itself as health.

Let’s talk about:
• What gets called “normal” vs. “deviant”
• How bias hides behind clinical language
• Why critical reflection belongs in our diagnostic frameworks
