Today, we honor National Truth and Reconciliation Day or Orange Shirt Day.
On this day we wear orange to remember the lost children, survivors, and families affected by residential schools throughout Canada. This day commemorates their experiences and ongoing impacts, vital for reconciliation. The significance of wearing orange today is to honor Phyllis Webstad, whose orange shirt was taken away from her when she was sent to a residential school at just six years old. Her story reminds us of the trauma inflicted on Indigenous children across Canada.
Let's reflect on this painful history, commit to learning, and take action towards reconciliation.
