CQ WORLDWIDE Consulting is gearing up for the fall offering our reconcili-ACTION event for schools and businesses. Cultural Intelligence facilitator Wilbur Sargunaraj will be co-presenting and facilitating workshops with Indigenous artist and educator Randi Lynn Nanemahoo-Candline. People get to hear different settler and indigenous perspectives and see reconciliation in action! Our goal is to build bridges using Cultural Intelligence and create spaces where Canadian settlers and First Nations can come together in the true spirit of forgiveness. If you are part of an academic institution or business do get in touch with us. We are booking live ‘in person’ events in Canada for October through December and can present virtually as well! ✊🏿

CQ IN CANADA RECONCILI-ACTION EVENTS True reconciliation will only take place when we confront our bias and begin transforming our hearts. ReconciliACTION begins when we start listening to each other, learning from one another and entering into the world of our perceived ‘other’. In light of rec...

CQ KNOWLEDGE LESSON: The goal of the Indian Act in Canada was Assimilation. 🇨🇦 In 1884 the Indian Act was amended to ban ceremonies like the POTLACH. Popular with the Coast Salish peoples the Potlach means "TO GIVE". A Potlach upholds legal tradition, redistribution of wealth, refinement of oral history and affirmation of boundaries. Since these events reject the western value of private property, ownership and individualism, Potlaches were deemed as a major barrier to assimilation. After the Potlaches were banned the Coast Salish people continued to hold them in secret but if caught they were faced with imprisonment and their ceremonial items such as masks or totem poles could be sold or confiscated. Canada wanted to erase any sense of cultural identity held by the First Nations and it found many ways to do this including one we all know and have heard in the news....RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS. 📸 Canon PowerShot A75 3.2 MP Vancouver, BC. ca 2009

PROXEMICS: How personal space is maintained in a culture: While Japan is a collectivist culture which places emphasis on the importance of the group, the people value their 'Pasonaru Supasu'! Maintaining privacy in Japan is a first class skill and the Japanese can create their personal space in the most crowded places like the Tokyo Metro during rush hour. Contrast with close-contact countries like Argentina in the Latin American Cluster where people need the least amount of personal space! (30 inches according to research!) Understanding these differences between cultures can increase your CQ Knowledge and will help you be effective in your cross cultural interactions at home or abroad! 🇯🇵 🇦🇷 ——Wilbur Sargunaraj is excited to begin working on his new Cultural Intelligence book! He will be explaining the 10 Cultural Values and the 10 Cultural Clusters and how we can use CQ to build bridges across cultures and enter in to the world of our perceived ‘other’. Stay tuned! 📚)
