Canada has recorded a sharp rise in student visa rejections for applicants from India. According to recent government data, 74% of Indian student visa applications were refused in August, a substantial increase from 32% during the same period last year.

This increase reflects the Canadian government’s ongoing efforts—now in their second consecutive year—to tighten student visa policies. The measures are intended to address concerns related to fraud and to better manage levels of temporary migration.

By comparison, rejection rates for other international students remain considerably lower, with an overall refusal rate of approximately 40%, and just 24% for applicants from China.
