‘Coin-O-Matic is eleven songs of top-drawer Americana, self-produced for the first time at the band’s own studio and tracked for immediacy by Dennis Ryan. Steve Berlin of Los Lobos and former member Rob Crowell slip into the arrangements like old friends dropping by. The title nods to a long-defunct vending-machine outfit once tied to Raymond Patriarca’s crime empire, one of the half-mythic characters that still colour John McCauley’s Rhode Island.
Yes, they’re drinking from the Springsteen well, but they wear the influence honestly and do something brilliant with it. Exciting news for all you Kiwi Club members out there - this is the title track from their forthcoming album, due 8/14!!

‘Kiwi Jr. recorded Blowin’ Up in Detroit, with Holy F**k’s Graham Walsh on production. The album includes appearances from Detroit rockers Stef Chura, Fred Thomas, and Protomartyr’s Joe Casey and Greg Ahee, as well as buddies like Alvvays’ Kerri Maclellan and En Attendant Ana’s Margaux Bouchaudon. Fred Thomas helped mix the record, too. “Hard Drive, Ontario” is on the album, and so is the nervous anthem “Blowin’ Up.”

How do you feel about the Feelies? The Modern Lovers? Parquet Courts? You like all those bands, right? We all like all those bands. Otherwise, what the f**k are we doing here, reading blog posts about Kiwi Jr.? If you like those bands, then you will also find a lot to like about “Blowin’ Up.” This is a fun song.’
