There was a day I wanted to do something, but honestly, fear almost swallowed me. I was so scared, so doubtful, so concerned about what people would say. You know that feeling when your heart is telling you to move forward, but your mind is filled with “what ifs”?

So I went to my husband and said, “What if I do this? What would people say about me? What if I fail?”

And his reply shocked me. He didn’t even hesitate. He said, “Go ahead. I support you 100%. Don’t ever let people’s opinions stop you from doing what makes you happy.”

That alone gave me strength. That alone gave me courage. Because sometimes, all it takes is one person who believes in you when you don’t even fully believe in yourself.

At that moment, I realized something powerful: people will always talk. Whether you succeed or fail, they’ll still have something to say. But at the end of the day, it’s your life, your happiness, your journey.

And having someone beside you who pushes you to be bold, who tells you “you can do it” when fear is screaming “you can’t” that’s priceless.

So today I want to encourage someone out there: stop waiting for approval from the world.

Stop letting fear cage you. Stop allowing “what will people say” to decide your destiny.

If God has put that dream, that idea, or that passion in your heart, then go for it. And if you have that one person who supports you, hold them tight, because that’s a blessing many people don’t have.

The other day something small happened that warmed my heart and reminded me how much a simple hello can change a day.

I was coming back from school runs when my mind kept telling me to reverse. I did even though I was already close to home and drove down the other street. There, in a neat yard, a few Africans were watering their garden. After i parked at home one mind was telling me go say hi to them,I told my daughter, “Let’s go say hello.” I also told myself: if their body language says they don’t want to be disturbed, we’ll turn back.

We walked up and I said a shy “hi.” Their faces lit up. They welcomed us like old friends. They were so happy to meet another African family nearby.

We talk at length, but the interesting part was that the lady is a nurse just like me,same church, same children school,Nigerians,we are about on maternity leave and our house is less than 30sec.

Sometimes I think we forget how much courage it takes to reach out. Many of us keep to ourselves, especially when we’re in a new place. But that day reminded me: a small step a reversed car, a “hi,” a smile can start a friendship, build community, and make a new place feel like home.

So yesterday she reached out to me on phone to check on us,it was as if we have known ourselves for long.

Ever since our family friend relocated from Canada to USA moving to a new house i prayed and wised to have another African family around us.

Since February this year, I had been waiting for something very important. I prayed, hoped, and expected it, but at the end of the day, it didn’t happen. I was so angry and disappointed. I kept asking myself, Why now? Why this delay?

But just this month, it was finally approved, and everything went smoothly. Looking at it now, I realize that this period is actually the best time ever for it to arrive. Had it come earlier, when I thought I needed it, it wouldn’t have been as helpful for me as it is right now.

This taught me a big lesson sometimes our blessings are delayed, but never denied. God knows the perfect time. When it finally comes, you’ll understand why it didn’t happen before.

How to do your educational evaluation for those coming to Canada 🇨🇦

Educational evaluation in Canada typically refers to the process of assessing and recognizing the academic credentials of an individual, especially immigrants or international students, to determine their equivalency in the Canadian education system. It plays a vital role in immigration, employment, and further education.

Summary of Educational Assessment

1. Purpose of Educational Evaluation
♤ Immigration: Required for Express Entry (Educational Credential Assessment – ECA).

♤ Employment: Helps employers understand the value of foreign credentials.

♤ Education: Used by colleges/universities to determine admissibility or placement.

2. Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
For immigration purposes (especially Express Entry), a certified ECA report is required. It verifies that your foreign degrees/diplomas are valid and equal to Canadian standards.

Approved ECA organizations:

● WES – World Education Services

● ICAS – International Credential Assessment Service of Canada

● IQAS – International Qualifications Assessment Service

● CES – Comparative Education Service (University of Toronto)

● ICES – International Credential Evaluation Service

● MCC – Medical Council of Canada (for doctors)

● PEBC – Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (for pharmacists)

3. Steps to Get an ECA
Choose an approved agency (WES is the most popular).

Create an account on the agency’s website.

Submit your documents (e.g., degree, transcript – usually sent directly from your institution).

Pay the fee (typically CAD $200–$300).

Wait for evaluation (processing can take a few weeks to months).

Receive the ECA report, which states the Canadian equivalency of your credential.

4. What Is Evaluated?
Type of institution (recognized/accredited)

Level of education (e.g.diploma, Bachelor's, Master's)

Length of study

Field of study

5. Evaluation for Employment or Study
Colleges/universities may have their own evaluation process or accept ECA reports.

ECA is valid for 5 years while IELTS is valid for 2years.So for people preparing for Express entry go for ECA first before IELTS.

Yesterday while I was on the phone with my daddy, something special happened. The moment my little baby started crying, my dad’s memory took him back in time.

He remembered when I was just a baby myself. He said I cried a lot, and the only thing that could calm me down was pap. He told me how my mum would always prepare it in advance, pour it into a flask, and keep it ready so that whenever I woke up crying, I could have it immediately and finally relax. But if that pap wasn’t available, he said I would cry my lungs out until I got it.

After the call ended, I just sat for a while reflecting. How amazing is it that after so many years, parents still carry such clear, deep memories of us? They don’t forget the little details the cries, the smiles, the foods we loved, the habits we had. Even when we grow up, move out, start our own families, and think we’ve become independent, to them we will always be their babies.

That moment reminded me of how deep a parent’s love runs. A love that doesn’t expire, doesn’t fade, and doesn’t stop keeping track. Truly, parents carry us in their hearts forever.
