I shared a story on my wall today about a woman who got a job at almost eight months pregnant, and honestly, that’s one of the many reasons I love Canada 🇨🇦.
In Canada, once you are qualified for a job and medically fit, pregnancy is not a reason for an employer to say no. Your skills, experience, and competence come first. Being pregnant is not seen as a weakness or a problem.
I remembered how different it was back home. Some employers would get angry if a woman was pregnant before employment.
In fact, they would even ask, “Are you pregnant?” just to use it as a reason to disqualify her because they were already thinking about maternity leave instead of her ability to work. This particular question was asked by one hospital i applied for years back.
Here in Canada, such discrimination does not exist. You do not deny a woman a job simply because she is pregnant. Pregnancy is protected, respected, and treated with dignity.
This is what fairness looks like. And this is why so many of us appreciate the system here.
