Batteries are hidden everywhere! 🔋
As technology advances, batteries are increasingly built into almost every product we touch, from smart Wi-Fi devices to novelty items. When these products end up in the waste stream, embedded batteries create major downstream hazards at recycling facilities, including fire risks and costly manual sorting challenges.
Here are a few simple ways you can help reduce unnecessary battery usage:
* Opt for analog alternatives: Before buying an electronic gadget, ask if a manual version (like a standard hand crank, classic kitchen tool, or corded device) does the job just as well.
* Avoid cheap, disposable electronics: Cheap novelty toys, lighted gizmos, and single-use electronic items often contain non-removable batteries that end up straight in the trash.
* Support repairable products: Look for devices with easily removable and replaceable batteries so you can extend the life of the product without discarding the whole unit.
