It's not every day that you get to do roles like this in South Asian movies and dramas.
You don't even see men like this often in real life.
A boy with background like Subook's could have easily accepted Daneen for marriage thinking that if his mother could make all the sacrifices then Daneen can too. He could have easily become another Jami, taking advantage of Daneen's wealth.
But Subook became more empathetic towards women seeing his mother struggle. Something you don't see in a lot of men. In a family where there was no role model to look up to, he became one. Marriage holds a lot of responsibility but our society always makes it scary for women but truth be told, for a responsible provider mindset man, it should be equally effort demanding.
These days when some men cry, vent and lash their anger out on women on social media for not marrying jobless (as well as useless because they are not even good at doing household chores, managing a home and nurturing their own child), men like Subook is definitely a breath of fresh air.
From internet anonymous posts to real life events happening around us, we often see men never even thinking twice if they and their family can keep the potential spouse happy. They often hide or glaze over their dire economic and/or emotional condition of their family before marriage, never even giving the slightest clue what struggles or should I say calamities are waiting for the girls. Despite seeing their girlfriends/potential spouse being brought up with love and better financial condition, they still think it's ok for them to make her go through a life of ill treatments and financial struggle. Most women I know would still gladly accept these hurdles for the men they love if they were ever made to feel that the men they love, realise and acknowledge what she is sacrificing, when the men try to make their situation better for their future. Basically when the men give their best.
I think thats what Daneen's father saw in him, despite the condition of Subook's family, the potential of Subook to give his best for Daneen. That he will never take her compromise and sacrifice for granted. That he will give his best to change the course of their life. Gotta give it to the dad for being so far sighted as well. We got to witness some great male characters in Kafeel thanks to Umera Ahmed.
