It’s no secret that most construction jobsites across Canada are heavily male dominated. In fact, according to 2024 research from the Canadian Association of Women in Construction, women represent approximately five per cent of on-site construction workers and 12 per cent of the entire workforce.

But change is on the horizon, thanks to meaningful industry support and the work of passionate women like Tiffany Martin, owner of Swatch Pro Painters in Listowel, Ont.

“When I first started, it was rare to see another woman on a job site – now, there’s a real movement happening,” Martin says of the growing encouragement behind women in skilled trades. “There’s been a huge push to not only bring more women into the trades, but also to make sure they’re supported and celebrated once they’re here.”

There won’t be a shortage of work opportunities for new tradespeople, notes longtime carpenter Chris Crocker – but to stand a chance at filling the veterans’ boots, the new folks need to learn the kinds of skills that can only be picked up on the job.

Here’s how LePage Products is doing their part to help decades of knowledge stick around for generations to come.
