KIDCITY - Music

KIDCITY is the music of Torontoians, Kelty and Caleb Ellis. Somewhere between Enya and Dr. Dre, the twosome employ a gritty sound which they smilingly dub as “clip-hop” – or for all intents and purposes: dark, melodic pop songs with an overloaded signal.

Their first EP debuted in May of 2011, with their second EP is set to be out Spring 2012. They’ve recently written songs for various mixtapes and compilations for online publications such as UnholyRhythms and JustLikeHoney.uk. KIDCITY is also very excited to be working on a project called Miserable Singers with Canadian poet Victor Coleman.

BRAD WEATHERBURN - Mixed Media

"When I first began to work with clay it was tremendously exciting, refreshing and relieving. Up until the first ceramics class I took in 2006 I had only strived to portray three-dimensions on a two-dimensional surface. I had studied and fallen in love with figure drawing through high school and began to explore the concepts of form, volume and mass, represented through line, light and shade. When I began experimenting with clay I enjoyed the immediacy of creating form, and how I could build with energy and spontaneity. My courses at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design began to weigh more heavily on ceramics than drawing.

While building a new set of skills in the ceramics department I began to learn more and more about ceramic history, and in turn, world history. I was fascinated to learn that fired ceramic is a material that never decomposes and will remain on this planet for eternity. With amazing longevity, ceramic artifacts have provided us with a visual history of civilization. I found this profound.

As I work with clay in my Toronto studio I continue to develop my relationship with the material. I strive to explore form while being inspired by the many points of intersection between drawing and sculpture."

KAITLIN LEGGE – YOGA INSTRUCTOR

"I originally started practicing yoga to find a way to balance a busy university and working schedule in 2003. From my early practice I developed a fascination with human anatomy and physiology which eventually led me to study massage therapy. I first loved the way yoga made my physical body feel, soon after my practice affected my life in every way. I became more conscious of what it was that I wanted to use my energy for. I found a way in which I could serve. I felt a calling and comfort in teaching others Yoga. After becoming certified to teach yoga I have taught in Winnipeg and Toronto, thoroughly enjoying both. After finding home in Toronto I have had the honor of studying with amazing teachers, and soaking in the richness of yoga in the city. I am grateful to be teaching at both Spynga and 889 Yoga and Wellness Spa.

I have great faith in the power of yoga. I believe that yoga has a place in the heart and body of every human being. We are blessed with the ability to move, breathe, stretch and transform the physical body we have. I believe that the heart can be opened through our practice. We can find grace, warmth, openness, acceptance and forgiveness. Through the practice we accept ourselves wholly avoid hurting others. The practice allows us to be comfortable being whole in our lives. We are able to accept the dark times, as well as the light. Yoga allows us to see that we are all one, we are all connected. I believe that our world NEEDS yoga.

I am thrilled to be part of the Hearts in Arts Collective. This collective is supporting creativity, positivity, connectedness and love. I don’t think you can get more yogic than that!"

EMMA MCCORMICK - PHOTOGRAPHY

"Hi I am Emma McCormick. I am twenty three years old and my life's passion is photography. I fell into photography about three and a half years ago and it came at a time when it could never be just a hobby, for me photography was therapy. The photography chapter in my life started in July 2008. My dad had passed away from cancer and I was looking for something to help me through the pain and along came his Nikon film camera. My dad's brother and sister bought me my first roll of film and showed me how to load it and from then on I was shooting whenever I could.

Through the camera lens the world changed, I was more observant of the little things and the beauty in the world. I was photographing trees, landscapes, my family laughing, my siblings, everything was suddenly wonderful again. Photography is my passion because it reminds me that life can be dark and dismal but if you focus hard enough there is always something beautiful in the frame. And that's how I live my life, looking for the beautiful side of things."

Synchronized swimming was a sport that I participated in for a majority of my life. This sport as cliche as it sounds taught me so much and many of those lessons carry on to today. I dedicated a lot of time, sweat and tears to perfecting this sport and though I was never great at it I was happy an...
