’s Remember Your Name record is charting #1 in Victoria and climbing the ranks across Canada.

I’m really happy to know folks are listening to this record. It was a joy to produce. When Desiree and I met early in process discussing what kind of statement she wanted to make, we chatted about creating something authentic and intimate, but also atmospheric and powerful.

If we had to in it down to a genre, this feels a little more in the Americana/roots world than her previous stuff which skewed a little more country.

I love the evocative textures in this.

Proud to be asked to serve as officer on the board.

I have some ideas that I’m looking forward to sharing with the leadership team but in truth, I’m mostly excited to learn from these very smart and talented individuals.

May our work as a board serve to nurture the already amazing composer community here in Canada and to continue to advocate for creator’s rights as well.

We won a SOCAN award!

Attending the 2024 Awards ceremony alongside Ari Posner and was simply amazing.

It’s truly an honour to receive this award and to celebrate our work on (RIDE).

The 2024 Canadian Screen Music Awards are right around the corner and since Paris Paris received a nominated, I thought I would share some of my favourite themes from the series.

Why Me?
This theme came to define much of the humour around Jenny’s character as she navigated the new world of Paris, Texas.

Snow in Texas
This theme represented some of the mystery and magic that happens throughout the storyline. The voices in particular became a frequent ‘siren call’ for this part of the story.

Last Chance Saloon
A theme for the central character Jenny as she navigates a strange new world she finds herself in unknown and uncertain places.

You were born in Paris France
A theme for the central character and occasional villain in Paris Paris comes to know the difficult truth of his origin.

The score to Paris Paris has been nominated for a CASMA award for BEST ORIGINAL SCORE, COMEDY SERIES OR SPECIAL

My co-composer .s.gratton and I had an incredible time creating this score together and we are so honoured and humbled to receive this nomination. The CASMA award nominees are chosen by our peers in the Canadian composing community, so this nomination really means a lot.

and from are the brilliant visionaries behind Paris Paris and working on this show with them was thrilling.

Nobody does music for nominations/awards, but sure is a nice wind in the sails when it happens.

Joel is a guitarist, producer, and composer based in Toronto, and a unique voice in the Canadian and American music scenes.

As an in-demand freelance musician, Joel has collaborated with a diverse range of artists. Recent credits include Birds of Chicago, Amelia Curran, Matthew and Jill Barber, Great Lake Swimmers, Royal Wood, Jessica Mitchell, Aviva Chernick, Andrea Koziol, Dione Taylor, Lydia Persaud, Jadea Kelly, and many others. He is thrilled to sometimes play mandolins and guitars in the original hit musical, Come From Away.

Joel has produced records for Dione Taylor, Lindsay Foote, Aviva Chernick, Gathering Sparks, and Jadea Kelly.

Joel’s contributions on guitars, mandolins, slide, and banjo can be heard on several film and television scores by Ari Posner, Amin Bhatia, Stacey Hersh, Rob Carli, and Jim McGrath.

Joel studied jazz performance at Humber College and has trained with some of Canada’s most celebrated jazz players including Don Thompson, Ted Quinlan, David Occhipinti, Jerry Granelli, and Don Palmer.
