cléo cléo is a journal of film and film culture, informed by feminist perspectives. [email protected]

cléo takes its name from the protagonist of Agnès Varda’s "Cléo de cinq à sept" (1962), who comes to self-realization through the observation and mastering of her space. In the spirit of Varda’s film, cléo is an open space for emerging and established writers to address issues of film and feminisms.

A decade ago (!!!) today, the first issue of cléo journal went online. From 2013 to 2019, countless people helped keep this publication running as we strove to publish fresh film criticism from feminist perspectives.

A decade on (!!!), our website needs a bit of work and we’d love if you celebrated this anniversary by buying a copy of our beautiful reader. (Cover by Jazzmyn Coker and design by .) The funds go to digital preservation and web fees.
