Seeking Background Performers, ACTRA and Non-Union for the upcoming TV Series Motorheads. Various dates between March 25th-July 22nd 2024.

Within this group, we are definitely seeking High School Students (18-22 years old), Performers who own Motorcycles (all ages, especially younger but some older as well), as well as performers with Sports Cars / Muscle Cars, etc. But open to all others as well!

Rates:
Non-Union BG - 16.55/hr with an 8hr minimum
ACTRA - regular BG as per IPA.
Photo Doubles (when/if applicable) - $255.50/8hr + $48.00 overtime.
SSE (when/if applicable) - $341.00/8hr + $64.00 overtime.

Important: Please do *NOT* apply if you have already filled out an application for Motorheads on or after March 4th 2024. We have your application on file. Please do not apply with more than one agent.

We are looking for the following:

GENERAL ADULT BG:
-Ages 18-99.
-Lives in Toronto, Hamilton, Brantford, Paris OR able to travel to these locations

PERFORMERS WITH VEHICLES:

-Ages 18-99
-Lives in Toronto, Hamilton, Brantford, Paris OR able to travel to these locations
-All types of vehicles: Cars, Minivans, Trucks, Motorcycles, Muscle Cars/Sports Cars, etc.

Motorcycles/Muscle Cars/Sports Cars may have potential for SSE rates on certain dates depending on the role/day.

(note performers booked with their car/vehicle on the day will be compensated an additional $40 on top of their daily rate, Travel/Mileage for ACTRA Members when applicable)

This decision to close our office was a difficult one to make, with many factors influencing this decision: a changing industry, with payroll companies starting to push direct deposit, and issues of personal safety. Without getting into too many details, I had two recent scary experiences involving an intruder, where the police needed to be involved. Thankfully no one was hurt, and I was not by myself either time (I have so much love for the performers who were with me during these experiences) but the safety of myself, all staff and all background performers has become and continues to be my top priority.

Effective immediately, the J Talent office at 1594 Queen Street East will be closed for drop-in hours and registrations. We will take March and April to settle all office business, including cheque & T4A pickup/mailout, selling all furniture, etc, and the space will be officially closed as of May 1st.

Any background performers who have any cheques remaining at the office will receive a separate email with instructions - we will be open for appointments only for March and April (cheque pick-up, commission payments, saying hello/goodbye).

I am so thankful for the three years I had this office and all that it allowed me to do for J Talent. For now, I ask for your patience as we begin the transition to the new J Talent Agency. Please rest assured - our booking process will remain the same - always as personable as can be! It is only registrations and commission payments that will be affected, and we are exploring options to keep our process as personal and thorough as possible. J Talent prides itself on working differently, which we will always continue to do.

Thank you ALL in advance for your continued support, your well wishes, and for respecting this difficult decision. Please also respect my decision not to discuss this further - I have taken time to explore all options, and I feel good about the decision to no longer have a physical office (as much as it pains me to no longer offer in person registrations).

We are taking this last week before we close for the holidays to be present with our performers stopping by to see us!

Registrations will resume mid January, please contact us to book your appointment! Currently booking registration appointments for January and February.

All non union and AABP registrations are in person only, by appointment only.

In the meantime, happy holidays to all and we look forward to meeting you in the new year!

Announcing our holiday hours for 2023! We are open this Tuesday to Thursday, 12:00PM to 5:00PM for cheque pickup, commission payment and holiday well wishes before we close down for the holidays. We won't be doing any registrations this week, so anyone who drops by will have my full attention 😀

Anyone already registered with J Talent is welcome to drop by anytime during these days to say hello, meet your agent if you haven't, pay commission or pickup cheques!

Otherwise we will be officially closed as of Friday December 22nd until mid January (re-opening date TBD).

Of course, we will be monitoring the mail for any cheques that come in over the holidays and will let anyone know if a cheque of theirs comes in while we are closed.

We are looking for background performers for Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 3! Running December 2023 until July 2024, there are a number of background roles to be cast.

Please note most of these roles will require the following:

1. New face! Meaning you have not been on Strange New Worlds
2. Ideally you haven't been on Star Trek Discovery
3. Height between 5'6" and 6'2"
4. Physically fit and proportionate body
5. Dress size 2-6/jacket size 38-42
6. Clean cut look
7. Experience with prosthetics is a big bonus!

If you fit the description above and are interested in potentially working on Strange New Worlds, please email [email protected] with the following information:

1. Recent full body photo(s) ideally in form fitting clothing
2. Full updated sizes and measurements
3. That you are a new face on Strange New Worlds
4. Any prior experience you have on any Star Trek
5. Any experience you have with prosthetics

*Please note we will first be looking at our roster for all bookings, only if we exhaust our roster will we be open to booking off roster

**Just because you meet these criteria does not mean you will definitely be on Strange New Worlds, as the look of the show is very specific, background casting reserves the right to turn down any submissions

***Please note most continuity background roles will be filled from those BG established from previous seasons

**PLEASE NOTE THERE IS LITTLE TO NO WORK RIGHT NOW DURING THE WGA/SAG-AFTRA STRIKE. Please DO NOT send any availability emails, we know you are available, but there is no work! We look forward to all being very busy once everything is resolved**

How to make your availability emails more effective!

For the record, we don't *love* to receive general availability emails - as we always assume you are available unless you tell us otherwise.

+ Include an updated photo (we can never have enough new photos of you!)

+ Tell us what productions you haven't been on (we are always looking for new faces on the productions we book)

+ Include your location and if you are a self drive (productions filming in certain cities outside Toronto love to hire locals when possible, or those who will self drive to the location and not take the shuttle)

+ Include any rental items/special skills you have (we are often booking vehicles, bicycles, dogs, etc, and you never know when we might need your particular skill!)

+ Remind us of your look/wardrobe options (we are ALWAYS booking/looking for BG with suits...maybe that isn't your go-to look, but you have a nice suit/tux/gown/upscale wardrobe to wear to set - let us know!)

+ Let us know if we are your only agent/one of few (this is so helpful for us to know and we try to book these BG as much as possible - and please be honest, lying is our #1 reason for removing BG from our roster and we almost always find out when people lie to us)

Lastly, please note we do not respond to availability emails, as these do not require a response, and we likely wouldn't get much else done if we were to.

These are just our recommendations, but please know that every agent has different preferences with availability, etc.

We are so excited to be hosting our first ever clothing swap! Please see details below and let us know if you have any questions and if you will be attending!

GUIDELINES

*No entry fee. This is a donation-based event. Pay-what-you-can cash donation will be collected at the door. Your donation proceeds will go towards snacks provided to all, and to feeding our lovely volunteers.

*This event is from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Door will close at 5:45pm.

*Numbers system applied: if you bring 5 pieces, take 5. If you bring 10, take 10.

*Please note this event will be held OUTDOORS. If rain is forecast for that date, the event will be rescheduled for the next day (Sunday, April 30th 3:00pm to 6:00pm)

HOW IT WORKS

Please note that there will be a quality check to determine if your pieces will be suitable for swapping, and we will only count those suitable ones. The rest of the items you will need to take back with you.

1.DROP: Stop at the welcome area with between 5-20 items of pre-loved clothing, footwear, jewelry, accessories and books in good condition. Please wash your items before drop off. No rips or stains.

2. SWAP: Find some thing(s) you love!

3. KEEP: Take what you want home with you and remember the amount of items you take home must be the same or less than the amount of items you brought with you.

GENERAL INFO

1. ITEMS ACCEPTED: Sweaters, jackets, tops, bottoms, dresses, suits, accessories, handbags, purses, belts, ties, shoes, books. Undergarments with tags, swimwear with tags, socks with tags.

2. NOT ACCEPTED: Used undergarments, used swimwear and used socks, home decor, miscellaneous items.

3. WHAT SHOULD I BRING? As a good rule of thumb, ask yourself “Would someone else want to wear this?”. If it’s clean and in good condition, the answer is probably yes!

4. WILL THINGS BE IN MY SIZE/STYLE? We don't know as we can't know who will be coming for sure. That’s the magic of a swap - it’s all determined by the swappers! We encourage all shapes, sizes and styles to attend our swap :)
