WHAT A MOMENT. 100 prudes (and prude-enablers) joined us in Toronto for PRUDE PROM, celebrating the launch of PRUDEmag Issue 3!!

Typical prom is the ultimate example of how s*x-necessarism hurts everyone. Anyone who had one in high school can describe the universally harmful romantic and s*xual expectations that charge such milestones.

We set out to subvert this tradition into one that challenges such expectations, welcomes a diversity of relationships to s*x and romance, and celebrates prudeness rather than suppresses it.

We hope it healed something in you. We know it did for us.

Thank you to everyone who danced, read, crafted, ate cake, and dreamed with us. When it's a lonely battle out there as a prude, remember: you are with rooms and rooms of us.

Buckle up. We've curated a treasure trove of challenging, moving, and galvanizing works that push the conversation on prudeness.

The complex prudeness of covid-conscious kink. The tenderness of lavender marriages. The quiet triumph in going "boysober". Abolishing "s*x therapy", navigating intimacy through dysphoria, dismantling the relationship escalator, crushing expansively. It's all in there.

We got to publish work by an 11 year old girl about children's resistance to s*x-necessarism, AND a piece by a self-described "crone" about ebbing s*xuality in older age. We learned about the prude-shaming archetype of the "Maria Clara" in the Philippines, and what it means to be a "prude in a purity culture" in urban centres of India.

We wish we could publish all 300 answers we got to the question "what does prude mean to you". The courage and genius of every person who submitted to this issue is astounding.

Shoutouts to .council, superstar editors and , god-tier graphic designer , and each of our spectacular contributors for bringing this issue into existence.

We hope this issue can be a friend on days when the burden of truth is heavy. Prudes of the world, make no mistake: we are many.

WHAT IS A PRUDE?: Prude is a reclaimed term used by people resisting s*x-necessarism — our word for a s*x-necessary culture. See our pinned post “what is a prude?” for more.

WHAT IS PRUDEmag?: PRUDEmag is a zine reclaiming the term "prude" as a refusal of s*x-necessarism.

WHY PROM?: Most prom traditions heavily reinforce the s*xual status quo. Prude Prom is an opportunity to subvert, reclaim, and reimagine these traditions as ones that celebrate prudeness rather than suppress it.

VENUE INFO:

- Location: Allan Gardens Children's Conservatory is a SEPARATE BUILDING from the rest of Allan Gardens greenhouses. It is a standalone heated indoor greenhouse space, located closest to the Carlton & Jarvis intersection.
- Coat racks: There is no coat check, but free coatracks are available onsite
- Washroom: The space has 2 single-stall, wheelchair accessible, non-gendered washrooms.
- Accessibility: The venue is a single level building with no stairs. Doorways are standard size and fit mobility devices. Doors are not automatic. Seating is available in the space.

Pitch us your idea for a comic or illustration exploring what “prude” means to you, in all of its intersections.

Selected pieces will earn $250 to complete their piece and publish in PRUDEmag Issue 3.

Size: Comics should 8.5 x 5.5" (one page) or 8.5 x 11" (2 page spread).

Submit your pitch by September 29 at 11:59 PM EST.
