The Two Heroes Yelled To Throw The Kids Out The Window. Patrick Caught The First Kid, Ammad Caught The Second. Another Neighbour Brought A Ladder To Rescue The Parents.
In the early hours of August 23, 2025, a devastating house fire erupted at 103 Arborglen Drive in Georgetown, triggered by an explosion in the garage around 4:20 a.m. The blast was so powerful that it sent the garage door flying across the street onto a neighbor's lawn, as captured by security camera footage. Vesna Nikolic, a resident of the home, described the rapid spread of the fire, with smoke quickly reaching the second floor within minutes, forcing her to scream for help as the flames engulfed the house.
Neighbors Ammad Chaudhary and Patrick Marca were awakened by the explosion and the family's cries for help from the back of the house. Acting swiftly, they used a piece of plywood to catch the two children dropped from a window by their parents, and later secured a ladder from another neighbor to rescue the mother and father. The rescue unfolded in just three to four minutes, with a second explosion occurring as the family was brought to safety on Chaudhary's front lawn, barefoot amidst scattered glass.
The family of four escaped with minor injuries, including smoke inhalation, while the mother also sustained a concussion and required stitches.
Halton Hills fire crews, supported by the Milton Fire Department, battled the blaze using defensive and aerial tactics, but the home was destroyed. The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined. The fire chief credited Chaudhary and Marca's quick actions with saving the family's lives, stating they would not have survived otherwise.
