RAF Red Arrows
Airshow London

Presenting the Royal Air Force aerobatic team, the Red Arrows. The Red Arrows are one of the world's premiere aerobatic teams and are based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, England, though their operational base has been moved to RAF Waddington temporarily due to infrastructure upgrades. Formed in 1964, the team currently flies the BAE Systems Hawk T1, a British single-engine jet trainer aircraft of which nine aircraft make up the demonstration routine and three act as the support/photo birds.

This year, the Red Arrows are celebrating their 60th Diamond Season and were invited by the Royal Canadian Air Force to help celebrate their 100th anniversary. In response, the Reds embarked on a five week tour known officially known as Maple Hawk-Canada tour 2024. The tour would see the Red Arrows perform at four airshows and four fly pasts from late-August to September. Those four airshows would be Air Show Atlantic, the Canadian International Air Show, AERO Gatineau-Ottawa and Airshow London-SkyDrive.

For the demonstration, the nine Hawk's taxied out of the hot ramp for a backtrack to RWY 15 takeoff. Upon a 3-2-4 takeoff, the team performed a ten minute shakeout before starting the demonstration from behind with the Diamond to 9 Arrow. The rest of the routine followed with maneuvers such as the Concorde to Signet Loop, Heart, Vixen Break and a crowd favorite; the Tornado. Once the demonstration came to an end, the team performed an overhead pitch to break landing on RWY 15.

Presenting the Canadair CT-133 Silver Star known as 'The Red Knight' from the Jet Aircraft Museum. The Jet Aircraft Museum (JAM) is an aviation museum located at London International Airport in Ontario, Canada. Its mission is to preserve, maintain, and showcase jet aircraft, particularly military jets from the Cold War era, as well as to educate the public about the history of aviation and the role of jet aircraft in military and civilian aviation.

The Jet Aircraft Museum's T-33 Red Knight is a restored Canadair CT-133 Silver Star, painted in the striking red livery of the famous "Red Knight" aerobatic display aircraft. The Red Knight was a solo aerobatic jet performance that became an iconic part of Canadian aviation history during the 1950s and 1960s. The Jet Aircraft Museum's restoration of the T-33 Red Knight is a tribute to this rich aviation history. The aircraft is maintained in flying condition and is often featured in air shows, allowing spectators to witness a piece of aviation heritage in action. The Red Knight livery continues to serve as a symbol of Canada's Cold War-era aerial display history.

Canadian Forces CF18 Demo Team
Airshow London

Presenting the Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 Hornet Demo Team! Based at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Bagotville, the CF-18 Hornet Demo Team is Canada's frontline premiere demonstration team showcasing Canada's frontline fighter aircraft, the McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet. This year, the Hornet is painted in a special scheme to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force and has been named the 'Centenniel Hornet'. The pilot for this demonstration is Capt. Caleb 'TANGO' Robert who flies with 425 Squadron (the Allouettes).

For the show, and in typical London style, the Hornet always flies a twilight show and this year was no exception. 'TANGO' took the jet down to RWY 33 for an incredible dirty roll takeoff followed by the rest of the demo routine which included the minimum radius turn, square loop, dirty inverted pass and so forth. To end the demonstration in style, 'TANGO' came in for a RWY 15 landing with the tail hook extended so the crowd could watch the sparks fly off as he rolled the aircraft down to the hot ramp to conclude the performance. Always fantastic!

Airshow London

The F-16 Viper Demonstration Team is one of four demonstration teams in the United States as part of Air Combat Command (ACC). This year, the team proudly wears the paint scheme of the YF-16 prototype to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the F-16 Fighting Falcon. The pilot for this year is Capt. Taylor 'FEMA' Hiester from Robesonia, Pennsylvania. Capt. Hiester received his commission as an officer from Penn State Detachment 720 of the Reserve Officer Training Corps and graduated Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus AFB, Mississippi after being selected to fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon in 2017.

For the show, 'FEMA' stated out by backtracking from RWY 33 for a RWY 15 departure. This was unfortunate as the winds were the other direction and a RWY 33 takeoff would've given us the turn and burn takeoff right at us. Nevertheless 'FEMA' took flight and executed a tight and powerful demonstration with multiple high speed passes, a dedication pass, triple aileron roll, minimum radius turn and more. 'FEMA' then brought around the jet to conclude with a tactical pitch break to land on RWY 15.

Presenting the Boeing B-52H Stratofortress from the United States Air Force (USAF). The B-52H Stratofortress is a long-range, heavy bomber designed by Boeing and used by the United States Air Force. Introduced in the 1960s, it has a massive wingspan of 185 feet and can carry a wide variety of weapons, including nuclear and conventional bombs. Powered by eight turbofan engines, the B-52H has a range of around 8,800 miles without refueling. It’s known for its endurance, versatility, and ability to deliver precision strikes, making it a crucial part of U.S. strategic deterrence for over six decades.

Fortunately, Airshow London-SkyDrive 2024 was able to have one present as part of its Static Display. As the show concluded over the weekend, us aviation enthusiasts were able to gather some information from the crew that they would be leaving on the following Tuesday morning. This made for an extra trip down to London for a phenomenal opportunity. 'SCOUT 9-8' received clearance to Barksdale Air Force Base that morning and started up on London's Air Cargo Facility Ramp. After about forty five minutes or so, they taxied over to RWY 15 for a backtrack to RWY 33 departure but surprisingly ended up taking RWY 15 for departure instead. After departure, the aircraft hung around for two passes, one 800ft overhead pass and one 200ft over the RWY with the landing gear extended.

After the second pass, the mighty BUFF climbed off to 11,000ft and picked up its flight route on course to Louisiana. What an incredible bird, farewell to the Godfather!

Presenting the United States Air Force E-4B Nightwatch. A first for Airshow London, the E-4B Nightwatch, also known as the National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC), is a specially modified Boeing 747 aircraft used by the United States Air Force. Its primary purpose is to serve as a flying command center in case of national emergencies, particularly during nuclear or large-scale military conflicts.

Key functions include continuity of government, communications hub, survivability and command and control. The E-4B is often referred to as a “Doomsday plane” because of its role in crisis scenarios where ground-based command centers are compromised.

Airshow London was fortunate to get two passes from this aircraft, one at 500ft altitude over RWY 15 and the second at 1000ft over RWY 15 as ‘GORDO 1-4’.

Presenting the Royal Air Force Red Arrows with another stop on their Maple Hawk- Canada Tour to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

On September 11th, 2024, the Royal Air Force (RAF) Red Arrows made a historic visit to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum (CWHM) in Hamilton, Ontario for a unique photo opportunity with their Avro Lancaster. The team would then fuel up, depart and participate in a unique photo flight with the Lancaster over Lake Ontario and Niagara Falls before continuing onto London for their next and final show at Airshow London 2024.

The Royal Air Force Red Arrows arrived just after 1140 local time as ‘SAK1’ flight with the 9-ship of Hawks executing an incredible ‘spaghetti break’ over RWY 12 in Hamilton before landing. They then parked in front of the museum to a huge crowd- at least 1,000 people!

While their aircraft were being fueled, the team participated in a photo with the museums’s Avro Lancaster on the ground, along with their crew before heading away on a briefing to discuss the afternoon’s planned activities.

At around 1420 local time, Royal Air Force Red Arrows SAK1 took off RWY 30 from Hamilton and flew out to Lake Ontario north of St. Catharines for a photo flight with the Lancaster for around half an hour. It was then the two headed south to Niagara Falls where we were waiting for them but I found the Lancaster and the team were kind of far from each other once they passed the Falls to the south west to east. The Lancaster headed off after one slight pass and the Red Arrows continued, executing five incredible passes from the north and south before picking up flight following towards London for their next and final show on the tour.

All the best, enjoy the video! 😎🤟

Presenting the Royal Canadian Air Force's CF-18 Hornet Demo Team with that phenomenal paint scheme to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The CF-18 Hornet Demo Team is Canada's frontline premiere demonstration team showcasing Canada's frontline fighter aircraft, the McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet. The pilot for this demonstration is Capt. Caleb 'TANGO' Robert who flies with 425 Squadron (the Allouettes) out of 3rd Wing at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Bagotville in Saguenay, Quebec.

For today's show the Hornet took off on RWY 27 towards the crowd with an amazing 'dirty roll' on takeoff. The Hornet then entered behind the crowd for the 'overhead to inverted rolls' and commenced a flat show due to the winds and cloud cover over the show site. This was one of the tightest CF-18 Hornet Demo's I've seen this year and 'TANGO' made sure the crowd saw the burner in almost every pass. After the performance concluded, the Hornet went to join up with the Royal Air Force (RAF) Red Arrows for special Commonwealth Pass that will be included in a later clip.

Enjoy the video, all the best 😎🤟

Presenting the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and their 6-ship of F-16 Fighting Falcon's! This was the first time the Thunderbirds ever performed at this airshow and their only Canadian show for their 2024 airshow schedule. The team were one of three main headliners of this event, the other two being the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Snowbirds and the Royal Air Force (RAF) Red Arrows. This made Gatineau the only airshow in Canada and possibly North America to have three flight demonstration teams present.

The entire team was based out of Ottawa/Macdonald–Cartier Int'l (CYOW) Airport and started the show off with an overhead to crossover break. Due to the cloud cover and wind in the area, a flat show was called out by the boss and the team proceeded. Regardless, the Thunderbirds performed a swift and fierce demonstration over Gatineau, coming really close with some awesome passes. After the performance concluded, the team re-joined south east the field for a return to Ottawa.

All the best and enjoy the video 😎🤟
