⚽ TWO CHARGED IN AJAX FC SOCCER CLUB FRAUD INVESTIGATION

Durham Regional Police say two former employees of the Ajax FC Soccer Club are facing multiple charges following an investigation into more than $650,000 in league funds.

The Financial Crimes Unit began investigating in December 2024 after reported irregularities were discovered in the club’s banking transactions.

Police allege that, following a review of several years of financial records, investigators found more than $650,000 had been transferred from the Ajax Soccer Club account to various other accounts between early 2023 and 2024.

The accused were employed as the club’s Executive Director and General Manager.

Vicki Scott, 50, of Whitby is charged with:
• Fraud Over $5,000
• Laundering Proceeds of Crime
• Breach of Trust

Richard Karikari, 47, of Ajax is charged with:
• Fraud Over $5,000
• Possession of Proceeds of Crime
• Breach of Trust

Both were released on an undertaking.

Anyone with information is asked to contact D/Cst. Tisi of the DRPS Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5279.

🧡 Every Child Matters.

Today, September 30, marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

It is a day to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors who did, and their families and communities.

Orange Shirt Day began in Williams Lake, British Columbia, in 2013 and has grown into a national movement of remembrance, reflection and learning.

The orange shirt has become a powerful symbol of the culture, freedom and self-esteem taken from generations of Indigenous children — and a reminder that Every Child Matters.

Truth and reconciliation require more than acknowledging the past. They ask us to listen, to learn, to remember and to understand the lasting impacts of the residential school system.

Today, we wear orange. We honour Survivors. We remember the children who never came home. And we continue the work of reconciliation. 🧡

👋 I’m Vanessa Murphy and I’m putting a challenge out on my page here, and I really hope you’ll help me make it happen.

Right now, the Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes 50/50 jackpot is sitting at just over $3600. Date date is Wednesday September 30th, 2026.

My goal? Let’s get that number to $4,000 OR MORE!

Because yes, somebody is going to win half that jackpot — which is pretty fantastic — but the other half helps support an organization that does SO much for people right here in our community.

Community Care supports seniors, adults with disabilities, caregivers and families throughout Kawartha Lakes. We’re talking about transportation for people who need to get to appointments, Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Programs, Hospice Services, PSW support and so much more.

These are services that help our neighbours stay independent. They help families who are stretched thin. They help caregivers who need support. And they help people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

I’m asking you to help me give that jackpot a little push.

If you were thinking about grabbing a ticket anyway — today’s the day.

David Marsden — where do I even begin?

When I first met David at 94.9 The Rock in Oshawa, I had absolutely no idea who he was. Someone casually said to me, “That’s the Mars Bar,” with ZERO explanation.

I remember thinking, Who is this guy? He is soooo cool.

It didn’t take long for me to find out that I was in the presence of an absolute Canadian radio legend… and somehow, we were now coworkers!

But more importantly, I discovered what an incredible human being he was. Kind, genuine, fascinating and effortlessly cool — David was truly one of a kind.

I feel very lucky that I got to know the man behind the legend.

RIP David Marsden. ❤️

UPDATE - BELLEVILLE, Ont. — Police say a shooting outside a Belleville synagogue was intended to become a mass attack on Jewish worshippers, but two officers prevented the gunman from entering the building.

Belleville Police Chief Murray Rodd said Thursday that the gunman shouted, “you’re going to die for the Jews” before opening fire on a police officer outside the Sons of Jacob synagogue on Sunday.

According to Rodd, the shooter was carrying multiple fi****ms and a significant amount of am******on and had the motive and means to carry out an extended attack inside the synagogue.

“The only thing that stopped entry into the synagogue to execute the intent were the two officers,” Rodd said during a Thursday news conference, marking the first time police publicly discussed the suspected motive behind the shooting.

Rodd said the potential loss of life and lasting impact on the community had the attack continued “cannot be overstated.”

Const. Jeff Smith was stationed outside the Sons of Jacob synagogue as worshippers inside marked the beginning of Yom Kippur when he was ambushed by the gunman, according to police.

Smith was shot multiple times but continued to engage the attacker. Approximately three minutes later, a second officer arrived and joined what Rodd described as an “active gunfight.”

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Sean Ward, was critically wounded during the exchange of gunfire and died in hospital the following day.

The Canadian Armed Forces has said Ward was a former soldier who was released from the military in 2022.

Smith was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition. Police say he is expected to undergo multiple surgeries to treat his gunshot wounds.

The attack comes amid heightened concerns within Canada’s Jewish community over reported antisemitism and a series of violent incidents. Jewish organizations have called for immediate government action to increase armed security at synagogues and other Jewish institutions.

The Canadian Press first reported these developments on Sept. 24, 2026.
