✨ All leftover items will be redistributed to local outreach teams and shelters

We’re also inviting folks to contribute to the free store if you’re able: Clothing, art supplies, household items, or ingredient-labeled dishes 💞

In honour of Lara’s journey, we’re fundraising for a water purification system to support her immune system and recovery — donations are welcome, but there is no cost to participate 💙

We’ll also be collecting essential supplies for All Peoples Fighting Oppression (APFO)

Self-care and healthy boundaries are the foundation of any sustainable resistance--- especially for front line organizers, and all those engaging in community care, mutual aid and activism. None of us can pour from an empty cup--- we are here to set🔥 fire🔥 to oppressive systems--- not to burn ourselves out in the process.🫶🏼 Put on your own gas mask first, and be gentle with yourselves, first and foremost.💛 Images from .love .dagba

Our friends Taylor and Justin are currently in Acre, Brazil with the Yawanawá community, continuing a relationship of solidarity, respect, and cultural exchange that has been growing over years. 🌿

The Yawanawá people are part of a network of Indigenous communities working to protect the Amazon rainforest-- what they call the “living pharmacy” --while facing increasing threats from floods, fires, logging, mining, and cattle expansion. These are not abstract issues. They affect real people, real land, and real traditions that have existed for thousands of years.

This fundraiser is going directly to the community, not to travel costs, and will be delivered in person while Taylor, Justin, and the crew are there now. The funds help support local leadership, food security, cultural continuity, and the ability for the community to remain on and protect their territory.

Showing solidarity cannot stop at borders.
If we believe in Indigenous sovereignty here, we should care about it everywhere.
If we believe in protecting the earth, we need to support the people who have been protecting it all along.

Even a small contribution helps, and sharing the link helps just as much. ✨️🙏💜

Let’s show up for communities beyond our own backyard.
This is what real solidarity looks like. 🌎🤝🌱

From Kristy Forbes - Autism & ND Support

It is remarkable how often adults express confusion or indignation when children, particularly children labelled pathologically demand avoidant or oppositionally defiant (note - those who resist and/or oppose), question authority based purely on age or position. There seems to be an enduring belief that adulthood itself guarantees wisdom, emotional maturity, and safety. That holding a title, a role, or seniority should automatically command trust and compliance.
Yet when we look at the world around us, it is difficult to ignore that many of the systems shaping our daily lives are led by adults who struggle to regulate their own emotions, who communicate through hostility or dominance, and who appear more invested in power than in connection.

Public discourse is saturated with conflict. Relationships between nations fracture in real time. Communities fracture in real time. The most vulnerable members of society are further isolated, shunned, and placed at greater risk. Racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia are increasingly visible, not necessarily because prejudice has suddenly surged, but because those who hold such views feel emboldened to express them openly.

If this is the relational landscape being modelled at the highest levels of society, it raises an important question. What does authority actually represent? Is it safety? Is it accountability? Is it emotional steadiness? Or is it often hierarchy without attunement?

Children are not insulated from this wider context. They observe it. They absorb it. They see adults contradict themselves, escalate conflicts, misuse power, and justify harmful behaviour. They see that age does not automatically equate to self awareness or compassion. In that light, questioning authority is not inherently oppositional. It can be a rational response to inconsistency and unpredictability.

For children who resist, oppose and 'defy', sensitivity to control and coercion is heightened. Their nervous systems are finely tuned to shifts in power dynamics. Environments that prioritise compliance over collaboration can feel unsafe, even when the intent is benign. School settings, therapy spaces, and even family homes can become sources of stress when authority is exercised without mutual respect or emotional regulation. What is often labelled as defiance may instead be a nervous system responding to perceived threat within hierarchy.

Drawing a parallel between global power dynamics and a child’s lived experience is not about equating scale. It is about examining patterns. When authority is exercised without accountability, when power is maintained through pressure rather than relationship, and when dissent is punished rather than explored, similar relational dynamics emerge whether in governments, communities, or classrooms.

If adults expect children to trust authority, then authority must be trustworthy. That means demonstrating emotional regulation, repairing ruptures, listening openly, and holding power with humility. It means recognising that respect cannot be demanded simply on the basis of age or position; it is cultivated through consistent, relational safety.

Our children, in many ways, illuminate this tension. Their resistance highlights where systems rely too heavily on control and too little on connection. Instead of asking why these children question authority, perhaps the more generative question is what kind of authority is being modelled, and whether it genuinely embodies the qualities we hope children will internalise.

Children are perceptive. They are acutely aware of incongruence between what adults say and what adults do. In a world where power is frequently misused, it is not unreasonable that some children would hesitate to surrender autonomy without first assessing whether the authority before them is safe.

Ouuuu this one is going to be a whole vibe 🌙✨

SubLunar Community Arts Society is bringing us Moonlight Conclave on Feb 28 at 9PM at 116 Spadina… and if you love a little deco, a little witchy, a little cosmic late-winter magic, this is your night 🔮🖤

Lineup: AppleCat (BC) 🌊
Jonah K
Fritz
Kudos Lokey
TsubtleTsou
Acerbius

We especially want to show up for this one because SubLunar has supported Ripple Community Collective in our mutual aid work. When grassroots arts spaces hold us down, we hold them back. That’s how real community resilience is built. Especially in the winter months, when energy dips and venues struggle, showing up matters. Buying a ticket matters. Filling the room matters. 🕯️✨

Grassroots arts keep our city alive. They give us spaces to gather, feel, process, dance, and remember we belong to each other.

The lineup is stacked and there’s a BC headliner in the mix… don’t sleep on this one if you can help it 🔥

Let’s keep our community arts spaces thriving. See you under the moon 🌙💫

Heart-led creative energy isn’t a luxury in a crisis.
It’s resistance.
They want us numb, divided, and exhausted.
Creation is how we stay human.
Connection is how we stay dangerous.
Art, community care, dance and collective imagination aren’t distractions from the fight.
They’re how we survive it.
They’re how we win. ✊🏽❤️

Love isn’t just roses and candy.
Love is showing up. Love is solidarity. Love is refusing to look away.
Love is fighting for a world where no one is disposable, no one is silenced, and everyone gets to live with dignity and safety.
From liberation to q***r joy, from justice to collective care… this is what love looks like in practice.
Activism is my love language.
And love, at its best, is liberation. ❤️
Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone building a softer, braver, more just world together.

Fascism doesn’t begin with uniforms or slogans. It begins with people being isolated, abandoned, and disposable.

It begins when survival becomes a private problem.
When community is replaced with competition.
When exhaustion becomes normal.
When people are taught they’re alone.

But in this society-- loneliness is engineered.
Mass precarity is an intentional policy.
Community disconnection is profitable.

Fascism grows in those cracks.

You don’t recruit people who feel held.
You don’t radicalize people who have community, dignity, and real material support.

So no, the answer isn’t better messaging.
It isn’t perfect discourse.
It isn’t lone-wolf heroics.

It’s mutual aid.
It’s community defense.
It’s building relationships that outlast crises.
It’s shared food, shared skills, shared risk.
It’s showing up when it’s inconvenient.
It’s staying even when it gets hard.

We don’t beat fascism by arguing harder with fascists and bootlickers.
We beat fascism by making it harder to take root in our communities.

Collective survival is the strategy.
Solidarity with each other is the weapon.
Community care is the infrastructure. 🖤🫂🔥
