There's a lot of conversation about supporting artists right now. I wish the discussion was happening under better circumstances, but I'm glad to be seeing so many people clearly seeing what artists contribute to society.
Here's how you can help music artists in particular out without spending a penny of your money.
1. Hit pre-saves. These signal to the platforms and playlist curators that the artist has some pre-existing support.
2. Listen to the song on release day. Pull it up, listen a 2nd time if it's good. Add it to a playlist. You can even call that playlist "Artists I support". This type of behavior is what authentic fans look like to the system and can often lead to more algorithmic and editorial playlists.
3. Share the song from Spotify or Apple music to your IG or FB stories. Not only is this major points to the algorithm, but you're now helping bring new eyes and ears to the artist on the platform.
4. Share the music video or lyric video on your socials. Videos often cost 5-10x what the song costs to produce. So if you enjoy seeing your favorite independent artists invest in big shareable videos - SHARE THEM!
If you love independent music, and the eco-system of self-released music in your world, taking a few minutes to do these types of things can vastly change the release experience for your favorite artists.
