Many Ontarians still think ticks are only a concern in cottage country. Experts say that's no longer the case.

A slow-moving "tick wave" is spreading north into Canada, bringing increased risks of Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, and potentially even the Lone Star Tick, a species linked to a serious red meat allergy.

From Toronto ravines and Hamilton trails to suburban backyards, understanding the risks and knowing how to protect yourself has never been more important.

Big news for Canadian divers.

Parks Canada has officially designated five lakes in Jasper National Park for recreational scuba diving during the 2026 season.

The approved lakes include Lake Edith, Lake Annette, Lac Beauvert, Pyramid Lake and Patricia Lake, home to the historic WWII Project Habbakuk wreck site.

For many divers, this is a significant step forward for responsible access to some of Alberta's most beautiful glacier-fed waters. However, access comes with strict aquatic invasive species protocols, including mandatory Clean, Drain, Dry procedures and a minimum 48-hour drying period for equipment.

Have you dived any of these lakes before, and which one is at the top of your list?

🚢 Found after 100 years beneath Lake Superior.

The wreck of the Huronton has finally been discovered, perfectly preserving one of the Great Lakes’ most dramatic survival stories.

In 1923, thick fog and wildfire smoke led to a violent collision that tore the freighter open. Instead of backing away, the captain of the Cetus drove forward, using his own ship to hold back the flooding long enough for all 17 crew members to escape.

One sailor even went back for the ship’s bulldog moments before the Huronton disappeared forever.

Now the wreck has resurfaced from history.

A heartbreaking tragedy on Lake Erie has claimed the lives of a Norfolk County father and his 7-year-old son after their canoe capsized near Long Point.

Despite both wearing life jackets, the frigid water temperatures and unpredictable conditions of Lake Erie may have played a devastating role in the incident.

This story is also a stark reminder that even experienced boaters can underestimate the Great Lakes, especially during the colder months when cold water shock can become deadly within minutes.

Read more about the incident, the unique dangers of Lake Erie, and the critical safety lessons all boaters should know.

Deep beneath the St. Lawrence River sits one of Canada’s most haunting industrial wreck dives.

The Ash Island Barge, a massive “belly dumper” vessel intentionally sunk after its working life ended, now rests in dark freshwater depths surrounded by strong river currents and decades of maritime history.

Even more eerie, parts of its original rock cargo still remain inside the wreck today.

This latest Dive Report takes you underwater to explore the Ash Island Barge, its history, the technical challenges of diving it, and why this site has become a favourite for experienced wreck and technical divers.

Watch the full video and descend into one of Canada’s hidden underwater relics.

As Britain stood on the brink of invasion during World War II, an extraordinary secret mission unfolded across the Atlantic.

Known as Operation Fish, billions in gold and securities were secretly shipped to Canada under the constant threat of German U-boats. Hidden beneath Montreal’s Sun Life Building, the fortune helped fund the Allied war effort and changed wartime history forever.

This is the incredible true story of the largest transfer of physical wealth ever attempted.

Canada’s trout and salmon populations are facing a growing threat from whirling disease, a devastating parasite capable of deforming and killing young fish before they reach maturity.

This feature explores how the disease spreads, why Alberta has become a focal point, and what anglers, divers, paddlers, and recreational water users can do to help stop it.
Simple actions like cleaning gear, draining watercraft, and properly disposing of fish waste could make a huge difference in protecting Canada’s freshwater ecosystems.
