For nearly a century, an underwater mountain in British Columbia threatened every ship that passed it.

Ripple Rock was blamed for more than 100 deaths and severe damage or loss involving scores of vessels.

After repeated attempts to remove it failed, Canada chose an extraordinary solution: tunnel beneath the seabed, pack the mountain with explosives and blow it apart.

On April 5, 1958, they pushed the button.

Read the remarkable story of the Ripple Rock explosion on The Scuba News Canada.

A dive knife isn't a weapon. It is a potentially lifesaving piece of scuba equipment.

From fishing line and abandoned nets to rope and kelp, underwater entanglement can turn dangerous quickly. We look at why divers should consider carrying a cutting tool, which type to choose, where to mount it, how to maintain it and the important Canadian rules to know when travelling with one.

Would you enter the water without a dive knife or line cutter?

From fishing vessel to underwater habitat.

The former commercial menhaden boat F/V Calcasieu Pass has been given a remarkable second life beneath the Atlantic after being deployed as an artificial reef approximately 26 miles off Delaware's Indian River Inlet.

Acquired for just $1 in 2024 and donated by Ocean Harvesters to Coleen Marine, the vessel was cleaned, prepared to meet environmental requirements, towed offshore and scuttled at Delaware's Site 13 reef location.

Now resting on the seabed, the Calcasieu Pass is set to become a new home for marine life while creating another destination for offshore anglers and recreational scuba divers.

A working fishing vessel has become part of Delaware's underwater ecosystem. Read the full story at The Scuba News Canada.

🚨 Nine rescued after boat capsizes near Port Credit

Nine people were rescued from Lake Ontario after a vessel capsized near Port Credit Harbour Marina in Mississauga, Ontario.

Peel Regional Police Marine Unit officers found the occupants clinging to the overturned vessel approximately 50 metres south of the Ridgetown breakwall.

High winds and waves reaching 2 to 3 metres made the rescue particularly challenging.

Thankfully, all nine people were rescued, with only minor abrasions reported.
