Don’t use too many print production processes—when one—or none will do!

Let the paper speak for itself.

Following yesterday’s Navy day, we flipped the focus from blue stock to blue ink. The choice to use a ink perhaps used to be for economical reasons, or think back to the 1980s…but, less is more!

What’s beautiful about this print piece, is that it’s a step up from your basic one-colour imprint on white stock. It’s likely a coloured 60lb bond. Great for printing !

Today is ! And while some might protest the exact shade of this blue could perhaps be Royal or Cobalt—there’s no mistaking its hue.

We can’t read what this says…but imagine that this artsy-wrapped paper has something like an artisan sandwich inside!

is something that often gets overlooked, as well, received for just newspaper printing. But its thin, lightweight, neutral properties offer so much when creatively applied to other and uses!

This is a great solution for artists who like to add their signature style to something understated.

Wines take on all kinds of colours and flavourful notes—and so should the label. For —we found a wine label that has that organic, artistic touch. Right down to the stock and torn . A natural paper canvas!

We assume these are mass printed; however, imagine if they were blank canvases…and it was your job to paint something original on each one? Like a limited edition!

Nick asked his friends to describe their favourite famous artwork in a simple way then used colour blocks to represent the artwork. The idea was to see if people could visualize the artwork from the colours and description and maybe revisit it and discover something new in it.

In honour of , we discovered wine—a concept that plays off of the colour matching system, designed by Nano Alfonsín in Argentina.

This is an age in which wine labels are at the peak of design, all of them seek to tell a story or to be the more embellished one and stand out from the rest. This fact often gains such notable prominence that wine, the important matter, can be forgotten. The design seeks to demonstrate the communication power of design in the purest way possible.

There is often much to consider in a wine bottle—the colour of wine, colour of bottle, colour of stock the label is printed on—and the imprinting!

Today we’re celebrating . Ever notice how beautifully pairs with neutrals like kraft, creams, white—and black?

The simple gold striping adds such glamour to this , highlights their logo and even the use of matte gold metallic ink for the text. This gives new meaning to “go for the gold”!

Admittedly—gold on gold might be a bit much! But if you’re trying to attract the elite—this is the way to do it. Whether textured or smooth—foilstamping offers so much possibility for high contrast shine, or matte.

And if you really want to dig deep…you can delve into the shades of gold, either more on the green side, or warmer red tones. One thing is for sure, gold will never go out of style, and is often the most chosen metallic to use when quality and luxury want to be communicated.

Gold doesn’t always have to be splashy. It can be subtle—like the detailed edging in this publication piece. It’s elegant, classy, and really stands out.

Or use it to highlight just the titles in a brochure or foldout piece.

The best thing to do is learn about what stocks perform best on what presses—digital toner or offset litho. Understand, if you’re creating a die—what it’s made of (aluminum or magnesium) depending on the number of impressions. And most of all use something special, like gold, to accent or highlight with taste.

Sometimes…everything you need is already in the stock! This is an accent cover that houses multi publication pieces. Notice the use of —digitally printed, or can also be foilstamped with a die—provides a subtle contrast.
