ACTRA Toronto was honoured to celebrate Guillermo del Toro this morning at the new Guillermo del Toro Stages at Cinespace Studios Toronto, where Mayor Olivia Chow presented him with the Key to the City. Guillermo is a true visionary who has shaped the world of storytelling - on screen and in spirit.

"Toronto has been a second home to me and my creative endeavors. To have my name associated with these glorious stages where my beloved crew and colleagues share both work and memories is an immense honor. I am deeply grateful to Cinespace Studios for this recognition, and to the Toronto film community for its unwavering support throughout decades of my career," Guillermo said.

"Toronto is not transactional," he insightfully noted, and we couldn’t agree more. ACTRA Toronto is proud to have been a part of some of Guillermo’s incredible contributions to storytelling and the screen industry in Toronto. We look forward to the many wonderful creations ahead at the new Guillermo del Toro Stages!

ACTRA Toronto is saddened by the passing of performer Michael Blake.

Michael was a ACTRA Toronto Member, a performer with the Stratford Festival for 10 seasons, performed at theatres across Canada, plus a performer on film and TV including Murdoch Mysteries and Degrassi High.

At Stratford, Michael brought to life such memorable characters including Othello, Macduff in Macbeth, Master Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Don John in Much Ado About Nothing, Cominius in Coriolanus, Duke of Clarence in Richard III, Albany in King Lear and more across 25 productions.

We will miss Michael greatly.
