For today’s for Platypus and Puggle, author and illustrator Ariana Koultourides shares her favourite illustration from the book and the studio where she created all of the adorable artwork. 🎨

“The sweet, sleepy sloths would have to be my favourite illustration from this book, as sloths are one of my very favourite animals! Fun fact: I actually met my very first sloth in person while working on this book, which was so inspiring! My studio is simply a comfy, cozy corner in my home—my favourite place to be! My husband and I are both artists, so our home is full of art supplies, and I’m always the most inspired in the comfort of our home with our lovely little dogs.” —Ariana Koultourides

The incredible author and illustrator of Platypus and Puggle, Ariana Koultourides, gives us an inside look into her writing and illustration process for her brand new board book in today’s . 💓

“My process is always incredibly cozy— I love to start with a hot latte and cuddling up with my chihuahua puppies (who are my absolute sweethearts) while I ideate and discover inspiration for a new concept. I absolutely adore the entire process from rough sketches to the finished piece. Ever since I was little, it was my dream to bring stories to life with my illustrations. As an artist I studied design, drawing, painting, sculpting, and art history. I love blending both traditional art forms and digital techniques in my work with pencil sketches and digital renders for a dreamy, whimsical touch.” — Ariana Koultourides

We are so excited to share the cover for the upcoming picture book Midnight Manor by Sid Sharp, on shelves everywhere October 6, 2026 ! 👻🌙

🕸Synopsis🕸

Goodnight Moon meets the Addams Family in this deliciously backwards bedtime story and picture book debut by Eisner nominee Sid Sharp.

When the sun goes DOWN, it’s time to get UP at Midnight Manor! The unusual residents have a busy night counting the caterpillars on the curtains and playing drums with the banshees in the basement. Before they know it, the sun is rising–which means it’s finally time to say goodnight.

Midnight Manor is brimming with quirky characters and spooky scenarios in thoroughly domestic settings, from skeletons in the closet to bats in the laundry basket. Equal parts tribute to Edward Gorey and Maurice Sendak, this timeless bedtime book in reverse will delight kids and adults alike with each luxurious page painted in Eisner-nominated artist Sid Sharp’s trademark lush style.

📚It’s Week, and we’re spotlighting books from Annick Press that have been challenged, removed or banned from school districts and libraries.

We believe young readers deserve access to stories that reflect real lives, spark questions, and encourage big thinking. Books can open minds, build empathy, and start important conversations, and that’s exactly why they matter.

Let us celebrate the freedom to read, encourage discussions around banned books, and together, open the doors of imagination for the generations to come📖
