We landed safely on the coast near Formia, but what I found during my walk on the beach makes me question my own sanity.

It was just lying there in the wet sand. It is made of a shiny, hard material that I have never seen before. Beneath a layer of clear stone, tiny iron wheels are moving with a quiet "tick, tick, tick."

This is no Roman craftsmanship. It feels as if this object fell from the sky... or from a world that doesn't even exist yet. When I hold it in my hand, my skin tingles, and the sound of the sea suddenly feels so... far away.

What have I found here? 🕰️✨

Sometimes, the smartest way to travel is to stop walking.
After weeks of dust and hard stones on the Via Appia, I traded a few of my remaining coins for a spot on a small merchant boat heading south along the coast. Giving my blistered feet a rest feels like an absolute gift from the gods. ✨
The rhythmic rocking of the wood, the taste of salt on my lips, and the endless blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea... it’s giving me time to breathe and think about what lies ahead in Campania.
Have you ever changed your travel plans just to give yourself a break? 🌊👇

The city is finally going to sleep, and so am I.

I couldn't afford a room at the local mansio, so I found a quiet spot down by the ancient harbor. The stone is cold, but my wool blanket is thick enough. Listening to the wooden fishing boats creaking against the docks and the gentle lapping of the dark water... it's the perfect lullaby.

Tomorrow, the journey continues south. But tonight, I rest. Sweet dreams from the coast!

After days of dried rations, the streets of Terracina smell like paradise.

The market here is loud, chaotic, and completely overwhelming - but in the best way possible. I traded a few copper coins for this warm flatbread and fresh fish roasted over an open fire. Sitting on a stone step, watching the city breathe while finally eating a hot meal... it's the little things that keep you going on the road.

What's the best street food you've ever had on your travels?

The climb to the Temple of Jupiter Anxur was not easy. My legs burned, and the path was steep. But they say the gods reward effort, and this view... this is a reward fit for Olympus. ✨
Standing up here, high above Terracina, with the wind whipping around the ancient arches, I feel small. They say the sorceress Circe lived on that island you see in the distance. Looking at this landscape, it’s easy to believe in magic and myths.
I came to thank the gods for my safe journey to the coast. I’m leaving with a renewed sense of wonder.

After days of dust and stone, the scent of salt in the air felt like a promise kept.

Reaching the coast changed something in me. The immense blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea makes my problems feel smaller and my spirit feel wilder.

I let the wind mess up my hair and the cool water soothe my tired feet. For a moment, I wasn't a traveler on a dangerous path. I was just Sena, breathing in freedom.
