πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ HMCS Bonaventure – The Floating Heart of the Royal Canadian Navy

For over a decade, HMCS Bonaventure proudly served as the beating heart of the Royal Canadian Navy, projecting serious power at the height of the Cold War.

Nicknamed β€œThe Bonnie,” she was one of the few light fleet carriers in the world small enough to navigate tight harbours, yet strong enough to operate Banshee jet fighters and Tracker anti-submarine aircraft around the clock.

During the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, she played a vital role in the Atlantic blockade, using advanced anti-submarine technology to track and deter Soviet submarines.

In 1964, she carried out peacekeeping duties, delivering Canadian troops and essential supplies to Cyprus during a period of intense ethnic conflict.

Despite undergoing a massive $11 million refit in the late 1960s, the government made the difficult decision to decommission her in 1970 due to soaring operating costs and a strategic shift toward smaller naval vessels.

Her retirement marked the end of an era. To this day, Canada remains the only country to have operated a full-scale aircraft carrier capability and then completely retire it.

HMCS Bonaventure was more than a ship β€” she was a symbol of Canadian strength, commitment, and global responsibility.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Proud of Team Canada – Silver with Honour! πŸ₯ˆ

The game ended 2–1 in overtime in favor of the U.S., but make no mistake β€” this was a championship performance by Canada from start to finish.

So proud of our incredible women. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
You showed the world what heart, discipline, and true Canadian spirit look like. One game does not define greatness β€” your legacy, courage, and fight do.

Thank you for representing Canada with honour. We stand with you today and always. 🍁

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Canada & πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Japan Enter a New Era of Military Cooperation!

Canada and Japan have officially entered a new chapter of military cooperation. Defence Minister David J. McGuinty and Japanese Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi signed a major Equipment and Technology Transfer Agreement (ETTA) in Ottawa on January 27, 2026.

This deal creates a legal framework for the two countries to co-develop, buy, and sell advanced defence technology and intellectual property. The timing’s especially important as Canada moves to modernize the armed forces.

Japan’s now a direct source of supply for the Canadian Armed Forces. The partnership offers everything from marine sensors to high-tech aerospace components.

The agreement also includes a mobility annex, fast-tracking work permits for engineers and technicians travelling between the two nations to maintain or test new equipment.

As a top 10 military spender within NATO, Canada is looking to deepen its footprint in the Indo-Pacific region. This partnership is about aligning with a trusted partner on shared security goals like cybersecurity, space intelligence, and Arctic surveillance.

It’s a move that aims to build a more resilient domestic defence industry. The CAF will gain access to some of the best tech in the world through this collaboration.

What do you think this partnership means for Canada’s military future?πŸ‘‡πŸ»
