From Depeche Mode's "Dreaming of Me" and Howard Jones' "New Song" in the 80s to Weezer's "Undone - The Sweater Song" and Blur's "She's So High" in the 90s, music history is full of artists who seemed to burst out of the gates ready to take over the world.

Tonight the Retro Dance Party will take a listen to some of the strongest debut singles of the last 40+ years. Regardless of genre, label, or country of origin, the only criteria is that it must be the first commercially available song by a solo artist or band, including solo debuts from former band members (eg. Bjork's "Human Behaviour") or debuts by bands made from former solo artists or members of other bands ("Set Me Free" by Velvet Revolver)

So tune in tonight at 9:00 on Revolution Radio or Twitch and join in the fun!

Today, on Sonic Somnambulism, I'll be revisiting a setlist from early on in my Livestreaming experience. When I first began this whole Livestreaming thing, I wasn't in the habit of recording every set for archiving and uploading to MixCloud, so I'd like to get an archival recording of some of these early sets.

So today, I'll be revisiting a set from June 7th of 2020. As it happens, I had done a set, then, celebrating Black Excellence in recognition of what was going on with Black Lives Matter demonstrations at the time, so it seems like a fitting set to revisit today as we wrap up Black History Month.

I'll be tweaking the original set, somewhat, so that it flows a little better, but for the most part, I'll be playing the same songs based on the log file created by my DJ software during the original stream.

Today's set, therefore, will contain music from Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy, King Tubby, Nightmares On Wax, Massive Attack, Neneh Cherry, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Jlin, Sonny Sharrock AND MORE!!!

If you've been listening to the Fun Facts Fridays Livestreams on Revolution Radio for the past few weeks, you know that we've been honouring Black History Month with a 4-part celebration of Black Excellence in music history. The first part addressed the 1940s and 1950s, the second part looked at the 1960s and 1970s, and last week we looked at the 1980s and 1990s.

Now, before we take a look at the years 2000 onward this coming Friday, I wanted to expand on that look at the 80s & 90s on my Tuesday Retro Dance Party.

So, tonight, in my own way, I will be recognizing and celebrating Black Excellence in the genres of New Wave, Alternative, and Electronic music and related genres in the 1980s and 1990s.

Rumour has it that there's some sort of athletic competition happening later today. I hear it's the season finale of "Foot Ball". However, I haven't watched the previous 55 seasons, and binge-watching all that is out of the question. That's more seasons than Doctor Who, and I hear they change the leads even more often.

Regardless, I'll be streaming my regular Sunday afternoon show on Revolution Radio and Twitch before all of that begins, and in honour of the Superb Owl, I will be playing a whole set of songs related to birds. From David Sylvian to Jane Siberry and 808 State to Underworld, but NO Flock of Seagulls!

IT'S TUESDAY!!!

It's often easy to get bogged down in the serious side of music. From the gloominess of The Smiths, the self-righteousness of U2, and the artistic pretentiousness of art-rockers like Roxy Music in the 80s, to the angst of Nirvana, the industrial anger of Nine Inch Nails, and the outright rage of... well... Rage Against The Machine, one can forget the fun-loving and whimsical side of the 80s and 90s.

Tonight, I'll be keeping things light with the musical escapades of Mojo Nixon, Screaming Blue Messiahs, Ween, They Might Be Giants, and SO MUCH MORE!!!

Tune in on Revolution Radio or Twitch at 9:00 PM tonight to join in the fun!

Coming up this afternoon is another episode of my weekly Ambient Livestream show, Sonic Somnambulism.

During the first hour, I generally focus on traditional ambient, dream-pop, shoegaze, art pop, post-rock, and related genres. Today we'll hear from M83, Aurora, Florence and the Machine, Caribou, Robin Guthrie, and similar artists. The overall tone is tranquil, drifting, and soothing.

For the second hour, I switch gears a bit, bump up the tempos a little, and slide into more electronic-focused genres. Trance, trip-hop, acid jazz, downtempo, and chillout feature strongly, although sometimes I pick up the pace and throw in a little breakbeat, D'n'B, techno, house and more. Today, I have some remixes of tracks by David Bowie, Tori Amos, Peter Gabriel, Underworld, and more.

If you want to hear more, just check me out on Revolution Radio (audio only) or Twitch (video with chat function) at 3:00 P.M.
