Ice storms turn our neighbourhoods into a stunning crystal wonderland, but there’s more to those "glass" trees than meets the eye.

That beautiful ice is incredibly heavy, putting a lot of stress on branches and power lines across the community.

Make sure to enjoy the sparkling views from a safe distance and stay clear of any hanging debris.

Winter in Canada isn't just about the cold. It’s also when the magic happens in our beautiful Niagara vineyards.

Our region is world-famous for its "liquid gold," the incredible Icewine made from grapes naturally frozen right on the vine.

It is truly inspiring to see local growers brave the freezing temperatures to harvest these icy gems and turn them into something so special.

Each bottle captures the heart of a Canadian winter, offering a unique sweetness that’s perfect for sharing with friends and family.

Did you feel that unexpected rattle across Southern Ontario on the night of January 27th?

A magnitude 3.7–4.1 earthquake centered near Rama sent light vibrations from the GTA all the way to Niagara. Thankfully, despite the "bang" and the rumble, no damage has been reported in the region.

For those interested in the official records, Earthquakes Canada tracks all seismic activity across the country through their "Did you feel it?" service.

It’s a rare but striking reminder that even our local geology likes to stay active!

Building your own backyard rink is basically the Canadian dream, eh?

Start by finding the very flattest spot in your yard to prevent uneven ice, and frame it up with some sturdy 2x4 or 2x10 lumber. Make sure you spread out a heavy-duty white liner to hold the water.

When that deep freeze finally hits, fill 'er up until you have at least 3-4 inches of water at the shallowest point. The real secret to glass-like ice is adding thin layers of hot "flood" water once the base is frozen.

Now you just need to grab your skates and warm up the hot chocolate!
