The hateful crime committed to a muslim family in London ON yesterday are appalling. As canadians, we must all fight to end islamophobia and make sure our country is a fair and safe space for all people. If you hear islamophobic comments from anyone you know, call them out/calll them in. Every conversation matters. We must fight to end hatred together.

We've been silent over here but quiet time is over.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

It’s time to overthrow the systems that were designed to keep us apart, to divide us for power and profit. It’s time to bring forth big ideas, radical ideas of unity, of love and of reparations. It’s time to care, to reorganize, time to change.

The theme of our second issue calls for creativity and thinking outside the box like never before. What does our world need and what do we need to let the artist in us take over our persona that’s been covered by the fog of capitalism.

If you have something to say, art to create, ideas to share, please reach out. We're accepting submissions and looking for artists to co-create with.

We invite and will prioritize contributions from Black, Brown, Indigenous and minority ethnic communities.

DM us with any questions, ideas, comments
or submit [email protected]
Deadline February 15

Recycling our print waste into cards. Greeting cards get thrown out so fast, it can be a waste of money and resources to buy them new. Use whatever you have at home from the pages of an old book or maybe a collage of elements from magazines. Get creative!

Taking pictures of trash is something that lights me up so much and what drove me to make this magazine. I can’t even imagine everything that wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t allow myself to do it, if I listened to everyone saying that it was weird. We often limit ourselves because of what others will think of us but know that we are all here to be our fully unique selves, the rest is just fluff. Go be weird.

It’s plastic free July and it’s hugely important to reduce our plastic consumption (especially single use plastic). It might seem unimportant right now, but we can’t worry about plastics without worrying about systemic racism, especially when North Americans and Europeens send most of their plastics to be dumped in underdevelopped countries where people living near massive landfills suffer from the consequences of dealing with our trash. A fight against plastics is a fight for our environment AND for the people. Investigate in your own country where landfills are located and which communities live around them. Our fight for equity is not just about discussing and calling out, it’s about examining our actions and changing our behaviours that hurts others for our own convenience.

Oppression is at the heart of our capitalist society which means everything we consume and the way we live in linked to injustice and we must unpack it all one by one. Chocolate, one of the most unanimously loved foods in the world, is one of the most unethical goods we consume today. The cacao industry is linked to human trafficking, child labor and slavery. Because fair trade is not always a better choice, buy chocolate from brands who get their cacao from ethical sources only. Brands like and many others. There’s NO enjoyment in eating treats we can only afford when others suffer to produce them. Art by for Ungarbage Mag šŸ’œ
