“Raise your hand if you want to move out of your parents house and be financially independent” - as every student raises their hand with an interest in the trades🙋🏻‍♀️

3 months ago, I was standing in front of 500+ mentors and youth with a microphone in one hand, and a shaky hand holding my cue cards. There was a video camera, bright lights, and all eyes focused on me. Talk about being terrified and excited all at once!

Last year, I attended the HIEC - Halton Industry Education Council Women as Career Coaches event and I was truly blown away by the energy in the room. I never imagined that the following year, I would be on that stage as a Spotlight Speaker! 🎤

This empowering evening is designed to provide the next generation with the opportunity to discover a wide range of potential career paths ✨

This opportunity was a first for me, and I am proud of myself for seeing it through because I could never have expected the positive response I received from my unconventional journey through my welding career.

My favourite quote that I always remind myself is “Feel the fear & do it anyway”! 🤘🏼

I am so excited tonight to be a spotlight speaker at the Women as Career Choices event hosted by 💓

For over 20 years, Women as Career Coaches (WACC) has brought together thousands of youth and mentors from the Halton Region and beyond to engage in informal conversation, listen to a line-up of inspiring spotlight speakers, and participate in panel discussions about various career pathways 👩🏻‍🏭

This empowering evening is designed to provide the next generation with the opportunity to discover a wide range of potential career paths 📓

Last year was my first time attending and I was truly blown away by the energy in the room and I can’t wait to share my journey and opportunities in the welding industry ⚡️

Today and everyday is Pink Shirt day around here!

It was so fitting to receive the best package in the mail ~ these beautiful hand crafted roses from all the way from Saskatchewan 🙌🏼

Lately I’ve been feeling some imposter syndrome because I’m so wrapped up in home life, mom life, and work life - that there hasn’t been much time for welding life…

BUT this week has been a wake up call from a few instances reminding me of who I am, what I’ve accomplished, and the work I’m currently doing is making a difference in the welding community 🩷

Perseverance and kindness only round here ✌🏼

Some days it’s hard to be working at a desk inside everyday and I miss being on the tools but attending these events fuels my soul to support diversity in the trades one step at a time 💖

At the Women as Career Coaches event by , there was a common theme discussed by each speaker - the power of Education 🧠

Each table at the event had a mix of students and career coaches and at my table we had a great conversation about different programs available that students were interested in taking 📚

With having different career coaches from different types of careers, we were able to talk about their schooling path and to see the 💡 shine brighter when students previously hadn’t realized a program could be beneficial to different type of careers.

Education is the most empowering force in the world. It creates knowledge, builds confidence, and breaks down barriers to opportunity ⚡️

After attending this event, it made me reflect on the Women of Steel program that I got to lead by the . The opportunity to teach two classes and for these ladies to have access to Government funded welding training in an empowering environment👩🏻‍🏭

A few key takeaways;
✨ You are never to old/young to learn something new
✨ Opportunities are available but you have to look and have the determination to want it

4 years ago, during a time I was laid off like most of the world uncertain what the future would hold, a door opened…🚪

I jumped through that door like my feet were on fire ready for a new adventure 🔥

Little did I know all the skills I would learn and the opportunities I would get to experience from taking a risk on a job I didn’t think I would belong at 🙈

Event coordinating, and more!

/ Feel the fear and do it anyway / has always been my motto and it has got me through some nerve wracking moments ⚡️

Who knew this small town girl from a farm town would make it on the cover of WELD magazine with a full spread… I remember the day this was released and my jaw hit the ground in shock 💖

I am so excited for the years to come and the exciting projects I get to work on with an amazing team at the CWB Association 🙌🏼
