Just before 1pm today Five Islands Fire were called to assist two possible kayakers who an onshore observer thought may have been trouble on the water. As Five Islands Volunteer & District Fire Brigade found the water very choppy in sections, and it took a bit to locate the kayakers. They kayakers as it turned out were safe and had pulled into a calm section near shore unaware someone had called it in. JRCC was also involved. Fire made its way back to shore a little damp but were happy to locate the people.
Great work!

From Danielle Aspen, a parmedic in the southern part of Nova Scotia:

"I want to take a moment to recognize and thank all of this region’s volunteer firefighters and medical first responders. As one of your local paramedics, I see firsthand how often you are called upon to attend emergencies, not only for fires, but for motor vehicle collisions and medical calls across our communities. The support you provide at these calls makes a tremendous difference not only for us as paramedics, but most importantly, for the patients and families we all serve.
Your presence at medical emergencies is invaluable. You are often the first on scene, assist with patient care, and support us in situations that are often unpredictable and challenging. It is always a relief when we know you are attending. While you are well trained, emergencies often go beyond what any training can fully prepare you for. Yet time and again, you step up and deliver the care and treatment that is needed to make a difference. In rural areas, where resources are limited, distances long, and ambulance response times lengthy, your dedication saves lives. Often the treatment you provide has a greater impact on a patient’s outcome than most realize.
The commitment, skill, training, and teamwork you bring to every call allows us to do our jobs more effectively and safely, and ensures patients receive the care they need as quickly as possible. You bring comfort, safety, and lifesaving care when it’s needed most.
I know I can speak on behalf of all of my colleagues when I say that we are grateful and proud to work alongside you, and to share the responsibility of caring for the residents of our communities.
Thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and the countless hours you give to your communities. We don’t always get the chance to thank you in the midst of someone’s emergency, but please know that the service you provide and the support we receive from you is appreciated far more than words can express.
And for those who are not volunteers, who may be reading this and feel a spark of interest, fire departments across the province are always in need of more volunteers and there are plenty of opportunities to support your community whether on the front lines or behind the sirens."

Some pretty intense moments on Archibald Street yesterday.

From Truro Police Service:
On September 18, 2025, at approximately 1:40 pm, the Truro Police Service attended 55 Archibald St to assist the Nova Scotia Sheriff Services who were on scene attempting to serve a court ordered eviction notice on the resident.
The resident was non-compliant with Sheriff Officers and had barricaded the doors to prevent access. There was a strong smell of gasoline coming from inside the home and the Sheriff’s indicated that the resident sprayed gasoline toward them when they attempted to enter the home.
Truro Police Service set up containment and attempted to negotiate with the resident. Truro Fire Service and Emergency Health Services - EHS were also on scene to assist. The surrounding streets were closed and the threat was contained to inside the residence.
During this time, the resident lit the backdoor area of the home on fire to prevent police from entering and was quickly knocked down by the Truro Fire Service.
The male retreated to the basement of the home where he armed himself with a pitchfork and attempted to strike our officers through the basement window. Officers deployed a Conductive Energy Weapon (taser) without success and then deployed a chemical irritant into the basement of the house.
Officers continued to negotiate with the resident who eventually exited the home and was safely arrested and taken to hospital.
The accused was then held overnight in police custody and will appear in Truro Provincial Court this morning on the following charges:
Arson/damage to property
3 x Assault on peace officer
Resist arrest

Please be advised that as of Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the Town of Truro is implementing voluntary water conservation measures.

Recent dry weather conditions are impacting the local water source, and current water levels in the reservoir are approximately 3 metres lower than they were at this time last year. Based on previous years, water levels in the reservoir typically do not begin to recover until late November.

To help preserve the Town's water supply during this extended dry period, please use water wisely and reduce non-essential use whenever possible.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽:
💧Limit lawn and garden watering.
💧Avoid car washing and pool filling.
💧Reduce outdoor water use.
💧Fix leaks and use water-efficient appliances.

The Town will continue to monitor watershed conditions and reservoir levels, and will share any updates or changes to these voluntary measures as needed.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Yesterday in Town of Truro, Truro Fire Service had a call of a fire in Victoria Park. It initially came in as trees on fire near the Holy Well area of the park.
Fire responded very quickly and used the Truro Parks Recreation Culture gator to shuttle some gear but also deployed their newly aquired brush truck as well. The brush truck will be very useful in and around the wooded areas of town. Fortunately the fire was more ground based than into the tree line and was put out quickly using water back packs.
Great work everyone!

Tinker is okay!
Tonight just after 5:45 pm a call of a structure fire came into Debert Fire Brigade.
Officers were on scene within a minute or two and guiding incoming units on how to place and prepare for fire attack. Many thanks to two passersby who called it in, as it could have been much worse if not for the assistance. This was a tough fire for the firefighters and they worked hard both inside and out. Nobody was home at the time of the of except the family pet.
We are very pleased to share that Tinker was carried out by the firefighters and was doing very well after a drink of water and some love. Tinker was very happy to be reunited with some family and four legged friends soon after the incident.
Many boots on the ground with this one with Onslow Belmont Fire Brigadew and Great Village and District Volunteer Fire Brigade as well as Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Nova Scotia, Emergency Health Services - EHSand Nova Scotia Power contributing.
Sad day for the home owners, but we are very glad that nobody was hurt. The cause at time of posting was not yet determined.

Masstown Road in Debert is currently closed near Plains Road related to a structure fire in that area. Expect delays.

HELPFUL TIP: You can scan for trackers near your car using your own phone.
We can verify this story below, it was found in downtown Truro this morning. The person lives in Colchester County but works downtown. Upon testing this feature on my Samsung S22 it fully functions as described below. In fact when testing around my car, in fact it picked up and Apple Air Tag. It was not near enough for the "Play Sound" feature to ring so it was not in or on my car and most likely near where I was as it is near public parking. I use Samsung Air tags to track my dog when we are out sometimes so they do have useful purpose. Not all are bad, but the below description is very bad because it was placed in her car in a compartment. (Survivor De-identified. )
can you test your Iphone and tell us if this is a feature for you? Stacey indicates her Iphone 13 does not have this.

WARNING: "This is not b$%$t, this is 100% me... "name removed" and this was found in MY car!!!!!
This is a tracker that was located IN my car. Not under, IN.
"name removed" and I both received alerts to our phones last night that there was a tracker detected near by.
I work in Truro and park in a public parking lot everyday... silly me rarely locks the car.. well I will now.
I would like you all to PLEASE go into your phone settings, find SAFETY AND EMERGENCY then find UNKNOWN TRACKER DEVICE and scan for them right now. Go by your car and scan.
If you find one you can play a sound to find it and disable it by holding the bottom on top for 3 seconds.
I am taking the tracker to the police station.
Be safe out there... wtf is this world coming to??.."
