TOFINO RADIO ONCE LIVED HERE.......

Standing here at Amphitrite Point, it’s hard to imagine that this peaceful shoreline was once one of Canada’s busiest marine communication centres.

Here’s a little piece of West Coast history…

In 1980, the Canadian Coast Guard moved its marine radio operations from Tofino to a new facility here at Amphitrite Point in Ucluelet. But even after the move, the voice answering mariners across the Pacific still began with the familiar words…

“Tofino Radio… Tofino Radio…”

The name stayed the same, even though the people answering the calls were now sitting in Ukee.

For thousands of fishermen, tug crews, cargo ships and sailors, “Tofino Radio” became a trusted voice through fog, storms, and long nights at sea.

Sometimes history doesn’t disappear.

Sometimes… it simply changes address.

The Best Part of Canada Isn’t a Place

Canada Day has come and gone, but moments like this are what stay with us.

Watching a parent holding a little hand as the sun settles over the Salish Sea was a reminder that the richest parts of life aren’t things we own—they’re the people we share them with.

In a world that moves a little too fast, evenings like these invite us to slow down, breathe, and be present.

If you spent time with family or friends this Canada Day, I hope you tucked away a memory that lasts longer than the fireworks.
