What can I tell you about my film "Because I Can" if you haven’t seen it?
It’s a heavy experience. There are moments that are uncomfortable, and others that are absolutely heartbreaking. It was my personal passion project for over a decade, and last year I was honoured to be nominated for “Best Direction of a Feature Documentary” by the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Foundation of British Columbia.
I truly believe it’s a profound experience, one that’s best watched uninterrupted, from start to finish.
April is Organ Donation Awareness Month, and today marks one year since the Canada-wide release of “Because I Can” through Telus Originals. This award-winning feature-length documentary tells the story of organ donation in a way that’s emotional, raw, and real.
We began filming in 2012. Thanks to the support of Telus Originals, who came on board in 2022, we were able to capture life updates from many of the people featured—bringing the story full circle over the course of more than a decade.
The documentary has continued to resonate with audiences, and I was still giving interviews about it just a couple of weeks ago.
So in light of all that, I’ve decided to release Because I Can on YouTube, worldwide - for 30 days only.
I hope you’ll take 80 minutes to watch it. And if it moves you, please share it, talk about it, or simply let it bring a little perspective and positivity into your life.
You can watch the film for free on YouTube available worldwide for the first time for 30 days. Let us know what you think of it in the comments and let's keep the conversation moving! Link in comments!
