Kung Fu Classes and Personal Training (For Adults and Kids)
I have some flexible availability for Private Training. I can teach Kung Fu, Kickboxing, MMA, Qigong (meditation, movement and visualization exercises paired with low intensity exercises), Traditional Weapons (Dagger/knife, “Big Knife”/Sword, Staff/Spear) and Calisthenic Circuit training. I am able to schedule time for individuals or small groups and am located in Gillies Bay Area.
All of which are also covered on Thursdays and Fridays classes at the Texada Community Hall.
Thursdays are Xing Yi Kung Fu Foundations at 3PM, working on 5 element foundation exercises for Xing Yi Fists, Kicks, and Staff, as well as working on the First Linking Form (choreographed movements, similar to Katas, referred to Taolu in Chinese Martial Arts).
At 4PM we start learning Daoist Exercises called Medical Qigong. Recently we have been starting with our warmup exercises Qi Permeating Technique and Yin Yang Tai Chi Gong and then working a set of exercises for one of the 5 Yin Organs (Lungs, Kidneys, Liver, Spleen, and Heart*)
*this set also includes exercises for what is referred to the Triple Burner, which is for areas that oxidize/or give heat during their process of absorbing chi from outside the body, ie respiratory and digestive functions…which will be covered in more detail at some point
I am offering a Kids Class at 5PM on Thursdays as well, but I have yet to have anyone confirm interest, so I often leave after 15 minutes of socializing with the previous class.
Fridays at 4PM still have the Full Kung Fu Class, Wuji Xiao Yao Kung Fu. Everything I have to teach will be covered here. For the better part of 17 years of my life training 6 days a week, no joke. I have lots of curriculum to cover. We start most of our foundations in Hung Gar (those familiar with Karate will see some similarities) and Xing Yi, which was very popular amongst Security escorts in China in the 1700s(ish). It incorporates Internal Arts principles and has a “hidden” value for improving health. In action, it looks and moves like boxing or kickboxing with a Kung Fu flavor.
At 530PM I am open to starting a “Wushu Sanda”/Sanshou style Kick Boxing class. Sanda/Sanshou comes from the free sparring history of Chinese Kung Fu. Developing rule sets to be more inclusive of other styles of martial arts to compete on a relatively level platform, literally as it often takes place on a platform raised 2ft off the ground. In this class I aim to teach or reinforce good striking habits, drill basic and signature techniques, and help people improve health. All exercises can be adjusted for the individual’s level ....this is true of any of my classes.
I have yet to have any participants for this class, so if no one confirms, I will likely only stick around the 10 or 15 mins I'm socializing with the previous class/closing up….
