Some songs come together quickly. Others take years to finally become what they were always supposed to be.

“This Is What You Wanted” started as a heart-wrenching breakup poem written by Chase the Bear drummer Connor and brought to life through Troy’s vocals. The song moves from asking, “Is this what you wanted?” to finally accepting, “This is what you wanted.”

The band had the bones of this song for years, constantly coming back to it until everything finally clicked. And with this one, you can hear Chase the Bear starting to push into some new territory too, leaning more into keyboards and different textures instead of building everything from the guitars up.

Coming right off the release of “Isolation,” “This Is What You Wanted” feels like another step forward for the band.
