This couple from Colombia moved to Canada in January with many plans to settle in Canada successfully. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is no longer processing applications quickly.
There are many delays.
The woman is studying ESL Pathways and with a study permit, she cannot work in Canada. Lupita Garcia, a CNH Settlement Worker, helped her apply for her study permit extension so she can be eligible to work, but she has been waiting a long time for her study permit extension. Her husband cannot work legally in Canada so Lupita helped him apply for his first open work permit. He has been waiting for an answer from IRCC, too.
As neither of them are eligible for government benefits and they are unemployed, they were also referred to support programs offered at CNH.
COVID-19 has impacted many of our Settlement clients.
