The Harry Jerome Oval Is Now Officially Open!
West Vancouver Place for Sport Welcomes a World-Class Track to the North Shore
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the West Vancouver community celebrated a historic milestone: the grand opening of the Harry Jerome Oval at the West Vancouver Place for Sport. This brand new, top-tier track facility marks a major addition to local sports infrastructure and a proud continuation of Canada’s athletic legacy.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by a host of distinguished guests, including The Honourable Mayor and Council, Squamish Nation Councillor Deborah Baker, West Vancouver Schools Board Chair Nicole Brown and Trustees, members of the Place for Sport Fundraising Committee, and Valerie Jerome, sister of the late, great Canadian sprinting legend, Harry Jerome.
The atmosphere was one of celebration, unity, and inspiration, as the community came together to honour Harry Jerome’s remarkable legacy—a legacy defined not only by athletic excellence but by perseverance, dignity, and national pride.
The new track is more than just a venue. It is a space for youth, athletes, and families to gather, train, compete, and dream. It represents West Vancouver’s commitment to healthy living, inclusive recreation, and the enduring spirit of sport.
To Harry Jerome’s legacy and the bright future of athletics in our community—let the races begin!

Football Is More Than a Game – It’s Humanity
Football is a game of joy, enthusiasm, and passion. These values shine through in both individual brilliance and team spirit.
However, in today’s digital age, the game is increasingly overshadowed by the darker side of social media. Over the past three years, Kylian Mbappé has been subjected to an unprecedented level of abuse and personal attacks online. This is not just criticism – it’s harassment, and it takes a toll.
We are now witnessing the mental burden this young talent carries. He is not alone. Behind the fame, the pressure, and the headlines, many professional players silently battle with their mental health.
Mental health is not a weakness – it is a reality. It is time to break the taboo in professional football. It is time to support, not tear down.
Stop the abuse. Respect the player. Protect the person.

Tragic Incident at Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Festival: Several Dead and Injured in Car-Ramming Attack
A beautiful evening meant to celebrate culture and community turned into a heartbreaking tragedy on Saturday night at the Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver. A vehicle drove into a crowd, leaving several people dead and many others injured. The devastating attack took place during the festival, a beloved event that brings together families from across the city.
Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to the victims, their families, and the entire community during this incredibly difficult time. This senseless violence has shaken the heart of Vancouver, and our thoughts are with all those affected.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspect in this deadly car-ramming incident has a history of mental health-related encounters with the police. This revelation is deeply troubling and highlights the ongoing and urgent need for better mental health support systems, especially for those who may not be receiving the care they need.
As this investigation continues, we must come together as a community to offer our support and to engage in meaningful conversations around mental health awareness and intervention.
