The Harry Jerome Oval Is Now Officially Open!
West Vancouver Place for Sport Welcomes a World-Class Track to the North Shore
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the West Vancouver community celebrated a historic milestone: the grand opening of the Harry Jerome Oval at the West Vancouver Place for Sport. This brand new, top-tier track facility marks a major addition to local sports infrastructure and a proud continuation of Canada’s athletic legacy.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by a host of distinguished guests, including The Honourable Mayor and Council, Squamish Nation Councillor Deborah Baker, West Vancouver Schools Board Chair Nicole Brown and Trustees, members of the Place for Sport Fundraising Committee, and Valerie Jerome, sister of the late, great Canadian sprinting legend, Harry Jerome.
The atmosphere was one of celebration, unity, and inspiration, as the community came together to honour Harry Jerome’s remarkable legacy—a legacy defined not only by athletic excellence but by perseverance, dignity, and national pride.
The new track is more than just a venue. It is a space for youth, athletes, and families to gather, train, compete, and dream. It represents West Vancouver’s commitment to healthy living, inclusive recreation, and the enduring spirit of sport.
To Harry Jerome’s legacy and the bright future of athletics in our community—let the races begin!
