For those of you still confused about the Intercontinental Playoffs, let me give you a clearer explanation tonight. 👇🏾
After tomorrow’s game, only the Intercontinental Playoffs will remain, which will take place next March.
In the Intercontinental Playoffs, the two (2) highest-ranked teams in the FIFA rankings will advance directly to the finals, which will favor Nigeria🇳🇬(41st) and not DR Congo🇨🇩 (60th)
So, if Nigeria🇳🇬 win tomorrow, they will go straight to the final of the Intercontinental Playoffs.
The winners of the two finals in the Intercontinental Playoffs will secure the two available tickets.
🗣️Let me explain further:
Six (6) teams will participate in the Intercontinental Playoffs next March: 1 from Africa, 1 from Asia, 2 from CONCACAF, 1 from CONMEBOL, and 1 from Oceania. These 6 teams will compete for the two (2) available World Cup slots.
Among the 6 teams, the 2 highest-ranked teams in the FIFA rankings will automatically advance to two separate finals (the final of Group A and the final of Group B ).
The remaining 4 teams will be paired to play two semi-finals. The winners of those semi-finals will face the two already-seeded teams in the Group A and Group B finals.
The winners of both finals will claim the 2 available slots and qualify for the World Cup.
Therefore, if Nigeria🇳🇬 win tomorrow, based on the FIFA rankings, they will go straight to the final of the Intercontinental Playoffs, meaning they will have to play only one (1) match.
📌Current status from other regions:
▪️Asia: 🇮🇶 Iraq and 🇦🇪 UAE played a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
▪️CONCACAF: 🇯🇲 Jamaica and 🇵🇦 Panama are currently the two best second-placed teams.
▪️CONMEBOL: 🇧🇴 Bolivia
▪️OFC: 🇳🇨 New Caledonia
