FIREHALL BREWERY - SMOKIN' TUMBLEWEED WHISKY BLONDE Review by Pink Pints BC

Back in December of 2022, Sid Ruhland of Firehall Brewery got together with the distilling group at Tumbleweed Spirits Craft Distillery in Osoyoos to collaborate on his barrel-aged releases. If you remember in 2021, he collaborated with Dubh Glas Distillery and filled a few of their recently emptied barrels with his Holy Smoke Stout. That beer ended up winning him two awards at the 2023 Okanagan Fest of Ale including Judges Choice - Best in Show!

Deadfall Brewing Company: BASAL BROWN ALE 🏆🥇

In May 2022, Erin and Brandon Baerwald, avid homebrewers, and another couple (Jane Fowler/Will Emery) opened a brewery in an out-of-the-way industrial park in the city of Prince George. The first beer brewed was one of their four cores, the Basal Brown ale. Little did they know that almost 18 months later, this beer would not only win GOLD at the Canada Beer Cup for Best in its Class but was also the CHAMPION, Best in Show! With over 1000 beers in the running and over 40 judges, that is quite impressive!

SMALL GODS BREWING ~ DANCE TREE FRENCH IPA

What is a French IPA? Well, according to Small Gods Brewing in Sidney, BC, a French IPA is a beer brewed in the brut or champagne style with a French hop, in this case, the red fruit forward Barbe Rouge hop. It is also named after the historical fiction novel The Dance Tree set in Strasbourg, France which is written by Kiran Millwood Hargrave.

Moody Ales & Co: BLOOD ORANGE HEFEWEIZEN

Germany’s Reinheitsgebot beer rules have always allowed wheaty beer styles, including their most well-known, Hefeweizen (which basically means ‘yeasty unfiltered wheat beer’). From Moody Ales & Co on ’s comes a tangy North American take on this light, refreshing style.

FiREHALL BREWERY: MUTUAL AID WHISKY 🥃 BARREL STOUT!

What’s the advantage of having a distillery so close to a brewery? The opportunity to collaborate, but also to take advantage of recently emptied whisky 🥃 barrels! And that us exactly what Sid Ruhland at did. This is the second time that barrels from distillery and the assistance of artisan distiller Grant Stevely came in handy ti create a very limited release.
