Ninth Node - A multi user interactive surround Sound environment. A multi user interactive surround sound audio visual environment. Even the most subtle motions will alter the soundscape completely. Ninth Node.

The Ninth Node Project is an audio generating environment that allows you to interact with textures and placements through bodily movements. Its unique multi-panning software sends sound through speakers which circle the room and allow the listener to perceive sound traveling in a 360-degree motion. Synced with corresponding light dimmers, infrared camera sensors will read body movements and harmo

nize with a database of original audio recordings. A custom designed Max MSP software sends the subject’s X, Y, Z coordinates to selected channels, giving the audience a well-rounded panning experience. Whether it's in an indoor room or an outdoor covered dome structure, participants will become hyper-aware of their movements when linked to the soundscapes. This interactive environment will work in real-time, delivering an incredibly real and powerful experience to the users and audiences. So far in this development we can connect up to twelve people simultaneously. A beautiful work in progress for the ultimate audio experience.

A huge thanks from the Ninth Node team to Bass Coast Festival for having us back another year, to Hamish, April, & Poly for their hard work involved with the build, and to all the people that came out to to flail in the node.

This year was a huge step in the right direction for this project. In the future you can expect to see more installations around Vancouver & BC featuring the Ninth Node installation, as well as 360 degree surround sound live/pa environments. Details will be posted here.
