Easy on the eyes, thoughtful at their core.

Pique Newsmagazine’s October editions trace the experiences shaping B.C. communities through personal narratives and deeper looks at the issues behind them.

Illustrated by Jon Parris, these covers spotlight an Inuit woman reflecting on the joy of cutting fish, a Whistler journalist sharing her personal breast cancer journey, and a local writer’s creative outdoor writing space. One issue also delves into B.C.’s resource rush and its impact on Indigenous reconciliation, with leaders cautioning that industrial expansion could strain relations with First Nations.

Way before Elf on the Shelf and ugly Christmas sweaters became a thing, Vancouverites were celebrating the holiday season in their own festive style.

Spanning decades, these archival photos showcase a 1910 urban home Christmas tree, Hudson’s Bay window displays in the 1950s, decorated hospital wards in the 1920s and the Stanley Park Christmas Train in 1989—each capturing the city’s seasonal spirit in its own unique way.

125 years ago, gold seekers poured into Vancouver before heading north. These archival photos from the 1890s capture a city buzzing with new arrivals, big dreams and an adventure that started right here.

We can’t get enough of these covers, they’re seriously cool.

From forest canopies to star-studded skies, Pique Newsmagazine’s September covers are a fresh love letter to the Sea-to-Sky: capturing the region’s energy, edge, and evolving culture.

With artwork by Jon Parris, these editions explore the next generation of bird-tracking technology, the shifting culture of Pemberton’s trails, the rise of dark sky tourism, and a peaceful demonstration that briefly stopped Highway 99 in Mount Currie.

Watch for Pique Newsmagazine’s next issue on Friday, November 21.

Today, we pause to reflect on the courage and compassion of those who served, and those who continue to serve.

Their sacrifices shaped the freedoms we cherish and the communities we are building today.

Lest we forget.
