MABC - Mining Association of British Columbia

MABC - Mining Association of British Columbia MABC represents the collective needs and interests of operating coal, metal and industrial mineral mining companies.

Established through an act of the BC Legislature in 1901 to represent the interests of BC's mining industry, the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC) is one of the oldest industry associations in the province. In doing so, it has come to be regarded as the predominant voice of mining in British Columbia.

The Mining Association of BC congratulates Artemis Gold Inc. on receiving board approval for an expanded Phase 2 (EP2) development of the Blackwater Mine in central BC.

The expansion represents a significant addition to the mine’s processing plant capacity, growing it to an expected 21 million tonnes per annum by the end of 2028. The $1.44 billion investment means Blackwater will be one of the largest gold mines in Canada. At its peak, the project is expected to generate 1,500 construction jobs, on top of the 900 direct employees and contractors currently working at the mine. Once EP2 is completed, the Blackwater Mine is expected to employ approximately 1,200 direct employees and contractors – a welcome prospect for BC’s Central Interior which is being hit hard by the forestry downturn.

This is a significant milestone for Artemis, and welcome news for local communities, Artemis’ First Nations partners, and the BC economy. 👏

The merger comes at a pivotal moment for BC, Canada, and our economy. It will establish Vancouver as the headquarters of one of the world’s largest critical minerals companies, further cementing British Columbia’s status as a global mining jurisdiction. This transformative deal is projected to inject billions of dollars into the BC and Canadian economies and accelerate the growth of our province as a world-leading hub for mining and exploration expertise that supports nearly 4,000 BC-based mine supply and service companies." - Michael Goehring, President & CEO, MABC.

Teck and Anglo American have received regulatory approval from the Government of Canada under the Investment Canada Act for the merger of equals to create Anglo Teck. We believe this merger of equals will provide exceptional and enduring benefits for Canada.

Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Randy Bates penned an article last week affirming – based on scientific data – that waters in the transboundary Stikine, Taku, and Unuk rivers continue to meet Alaska’s water quality standards. This is a strong validation of the longstanding collaborative work between Alaska and British Columbia (BC) to protect these shared rivers and the salmon populations they sustain.

Commissioner Bates' affirmation recognizes the efforts undertaken by the Province of BC and the mining industry operating in Northwest BC, reinforcing that responsible mining and environmental stewardship can coexist.

Importantly, Commissioner Bates’ determination to protect the transboundary rivers and salmon is shared equally in BC, where communities, Indigenous Nations, government and industry rely on and value water quality and salmon as much as our neighbours in Alaska.

When Alaskans hear dramatic claims that raise concerns, we have a duty to look at the facts. And when you look past the press releases and at the actual water, the story is very different.

Thank you to our members and partners who joined us at Mining Day at the Legislature 2025 last week.

This year’s event brought together miners, mine developers, explorers, suppliers, First Nations, and labour to meet with provincial officials to discuss the future of mining in British Columbia. The conversations throughout the day reflected a shared commitment to strengthening BC’s role as a responsible producer of the minerals and metals needed at home and around the world.

We appreciate the engagement, insights and collaboration from everyone who took part.
