I first posted 4 years ago.
Same people spreading harmful information ( wrong info IS harmful ) making money, and taking up valuabe space.

Disorders for Social Media Clout.

Ya.. it’s a thing.

Ok, it breaks down to this:

It’s insulting.
It’s degrading.
It’s embarassing.
It’s wrong.

And it’s not just
Self diagnosing yourself, or worse-LYING-about being diagnosed ( NDR cough! cough! ) with a mental disorder, is RAMPANT on social media.

They have ‘shops’ where they sell ‘merch’. They have blogs, they have Patreons, some even write books ….

They have everything except …. A diagnosis.

Speaking solely to the autism families though on this one, I’ll say this.

The hashtag is not helpful to anyone, except the crowd like those pictured here who promote self dx, and shout out words like ableism to anyone who asks them to verify their ‘journey’.

These same people will dogpile on a parent, or a diagnosed autistic, who has DARED to use words like Asperger’s or ‘I have autism’ , sometimes to the point of severe emotional distress.

We have to come together as concerned families, and discredit this group of actors on the internet, who are giving the general population a very skewed view of what autism looks like.

Be wary of the authenticity of those who use the hashtag.

And if you’re a diagnosed autistic - WE NEED YOUR PRESENCE, we learn from you, we trust you, and we don’t want these phonies stomping all over your willingness to educate. So please don’t use the hashtag anymore, so we know how to differentiate. ❤️

It matters to me, because it matters to me how the rest of the world views autism, and how they treat my son.

It matters to me, because people like this DO NOT represent him.
