The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported a bizarre trucking mishap after a semi rolled into the Grapevine scale house on I-5 with a diesel pump and hose still connected to its fuel tank.
The incident occurred on April 15, 2025, when troopers at the Lebec inspection site spotted the dangling hose during a routine check. CHP said the truck had fueled up in Visalia, roughly 96 miles north, before the driver hit the road without realizing the nozzle was still attached.
CHP shared photos of the scene on social media, joking, “Oops! Considering this diesel pump hose traveled the distance from Visalia to our scale house was quite impressive!”
No one was hurt, and it’s unclear whether the driver received a citation. Officers reminded truckers to double-check hoses, cables, and couplings during pre-trip inspections to prevent dangerous or costly oversights.

I’ve tried the correct size as well as a crescent wrench which obviously didn’t work. I don’t have a welder that has access to where my truck is at and I would have to go to a harbor freight in order to get an angle grinder.
