With contributions from the ECU Outreach Program (1979 -1984), Ian Wallace, Laiwan, the 2014 Kamias Triennial, Avenue (165 E. Hastings) and Duplex (4277 and 4257 Fraser Street), and Moniker Press.
๐๐ฏ ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ต๐ฆ: ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฃ๐ช๐ญ๐ฆ ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ข๐ณ๐ต ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ค๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ brings together historical and contemporary source materials, media and artworks. Beginning in the Emily Carr University Archives, this exhibition takes inspiration from a period from 1979 โ 1984, when a now-legendary Outreach Program at ECU was most active. Presented alongside these programs is the work of ECU faculty, alumni, and community members whose work embodies themes of expanded learning beyond the classroom.
These histories and practices explore the significance of artist-led classrooms and informal learning environments and the impacts and legacies they have had across communities. ๐๐ฏ ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ต๐ฆ is above all a celebration of the possibilities of a porous classroom, and the many ways artists have experimented with the form through practices of mutual support, space creation, and radical dissemination.
