CULTURE DAY (not "Canada" Day) on July 1st at Trout Lake was incredible! This powerful demonstration was a way of demanding systemic change while celebrating Indigenous and Black artists and creatives. It was pouring rain but the community came through in support and solidarity.
This demonstration, organized by The Vancouver BIPOC- CA, alongside all its supporters (as we all should be) is demanding:
1. Demand the city keeps its commitment to build a Black Cultural Centre on the former site of Hogan’s Alley.
2.New Facilities that support our cultures music and art production, especially for youth.
3. STOP appropriating our music and culture for profit without actual representation of our local artists.
4.All music venues must include local Bipoc programming and provide free accessible access to space.
5.Recognize and commemorate our cultural contributions to this beautiful city we now call Vancouver.
6.Help combat anti-black and anti-indigenous racism by including Arts & Culture within BC schools/art programs.
7. Equal representation in art galleries.
8.END WHITE SUPREMACY IN MAJOR ROLES WITHIN ARTS ORGANIZATIONS
