For years, DJI’s Osmo Pocket had the category to itself but not anymore, Insta360 Luna Ultra has just entered the chat.
It’s got dual Leica Camera Summicron optics with a 1” 8K Sensor on the 20mm F1.8 lens and 1/1.3” sensor on the 60mm F2. With the 6x lossless zoom the Luna has a 20-120mm range that fits in your pocket. This will come in clutch for me when filming car rollers as I won’t need to drive the two vehicles super close now that I have more reach. Also if you use a lens attachment it can widen the range to 15mm.
The innovative detachable screen is a handy feature for solo creators like myself. I need my phone to reference my script and every time I go back and forth between apps it would disconnect me from the camera. Now I can just place the camera where I want and easily monitor the shot remotely.
The HD image transmission is good up to 20m for on-the-go control and monitoring. The remote even has a built in microphone to capture clear audio.
It got Leica colour profiles instantly elevate your work with little effort if you don’t want to deal with colour grading log footage.
I really wanted the white one so I can quickly tell the difference between cameras when I eventually get the Pocket 4 Pro as well but I needed to wait 2-3 weeks for it to arrive and I wanted to use it this weekend.
Some things I would like to see in a firmware update. Custom button able to toggle zooming between two ranges the user sets in a single click, and locking AF+Exposure.
