AI can now generate images within seconds, but we still believe there is something irreplaceable about human artwork, the stories, emotions, humour, imperfections, and personality behind every artist’s creation.

For our first anniversary, West Coast Cultural Lab ( ) is creating a collaborative sticker sheet featuring illustrators and artists from our community.

Rather than promoting ourselves, we hope this can become a small shared gift for the community while introducing more local artists and their work to new audiences.

We’re looking for different styles, playful, emotional, weird, warm, abstract, character-based, or anything that feels like you.

The theme is inspired by our anniversary spirit. We believe each person is like a drop of water. When we come together, we can become waves.

Let’s carry that spirit and create something worth sharing together 🌊

Submission Deadline: June 15, 2026

Something is growing 🌊

This August marks the 1st anniversary of and we’re continuing to independently build and open up more ways for the community to create together.

Over the past year, we’ve been exploring how film, print, art, storytelling, and community can connect people from different backgrounds through both analog and digital spaces.

It hasn’t always been easy. Building independent community projects without funding takes a lot of faith, energy, and persistence. But every time we connect with artists, audiences, local businesses, organizations, and community members, we’re reminded why it’s worth continuing while we still can.

For our anniversary series, we’ll be opening calls for:
• Illustrators & Photographers
• Writers & Creatives
• Animators & Filmmakers
• Curious Humans

Upcoming projects include:
✦ Vancouver On Ink community publication
✦ Artist collaboration project
✦ Mini Film Festival
✦ Community celebration events

If you believe in building meaningful and creative community spaces together, we’d love to connect. Interested in becoming a community partner? Feel free to DM us ;)

We believe every person is like a drop of water. When we gather together, we can become a wave.

More details coming soon.

Yesterday afternoon at , we laughed and cried together as a community 💙

One of the most touching moments for me was seeing people arrive wearing little touches of blue. What started as a small dress code idea slowly became something much bigger when everyone gathered together.

In my speech, I shared:

“When we are individually, we are just drops of water. But when we gather together, we can become an ocean. Today, we may not be an ocean, but we can still become a river, or a wave, passing the message along together.”

Watching a film in cinema really feels different from watching at home.
You hear a whole room laughing together, becoming silent together, holding back tears together.

Alongside the screening, we also prepared a small community experience around the film, including a Community Picks playlist inspired by beloved animals, a mini visual letter film festival, and a special edition of created for the event.

One of my hopes in bringing this Hong Kong documentary to Vancouver was not only to share the animal rescue journey in another place, but also to open conversations about the similarities and differences between here and there.

I was deeply moved by the diversity of the audience. Different backgrounds, languages, and experiences gathered in the same cinema.

And I realized:
language did not become a boundary.
Our care for animals, our valuing of life, and cinema itself became our shared language.

After the screening, many people stayed in the lobby talking, meeting one another, and supporting ’s fundraiser for ._.pawsabilities 💙

Thank you to everyone who came, supported, shared, volunteered, collaborated, and believed in this project.

’s first anniversary issue open call and our upcoming art jam will be announced soon, stay tuned!

📢 6 days to go until the Vancouver screening of Paws Land!

What makes this documentary special is not only the rescue stories, but also the way it observes the deeper reality behind them.

“Paws Land neither sensationalizes suffering nor exploits it. One of the greatest strengths is showing that the issue of stray and abandoned dogs is not only caused by owners, but also by systemic problems.”
— , Film Critic

Paws Land is not only a documentary about animal rescue.
It is also a reflection on the people behind the rescue work, the humanity they carry, and the difficult reality they continue facing every day.

Dr. Stephanie Ng shared after watching Paws Land:

“Beyond the rescue stories, what truly moves people may be the volunteers. Their helplessness, persistence, and their determination to keep going despite reality.”
— Dr. Stephanie Ng, Film Critic

「毛守救援」義工們的故事比狗狗們從傷病流浪到找到新家的完滿故事更貼地和現實,他們那份無奈和盡心竭力的感情可能正是打動不少觀眾的鑰匙。
