Peter Obi will come distant fourth in 2023, he and his abusive Obidients will know their fate by 12pm

~ Femi Fani Kayode

“Peter the liar Obi and his garrulous, gullible and fascistic Obidients who believe that no-one has the right to disagree with them, oppose their candidate or change their opinion on national issues, will know their fate as early as 12.00 noon on the day of the election.”

“By noon on that day it will be clear to them that their support base is negligible, that they cannot be counted amongst the big boys and that their candidate never had a hope in hell of coming within the top three let alone winning from the outset.”

“Even Rabiu Kwankwaso's regional party will defeat them hands down and cause Peter to trail behind him and come a distant fourth.”

WE’RE NOT COMMITTED TO ENDORSING TINUBU – BISHOPS
The bishops who met presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in Abuja on Thursday have said they were not committed to endorsing him.

Daily Trust had reported how the candidate met with Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria.

In his brief comment at the meeting, Chairman of Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria, Archbishop John Praise, said, “We are not committed to endorsing anybody, but you should ask your conscience and from what you have heard and from the explanation, he (Tinubu) had given to us to make your own judgement of who will better rule and handle the country.”

Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State told the bishops that his choice of a former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima was not a threat to the Christian community.

Tinubu explained that his choice of Shettima was based on competence and not religious considerations, adding that only competence can resolve the political and socio-economic challenges bedevilling the nation.

The APC presidential candidate said he has always been a friend of the Christian community and he should be considered based on his track records, plans and agenda for developing Nigeria.

“How will Nigeria develop? How do we banish hunger? How do we improve the insecurity and how do we eliminate killing one another, shedding of blood of innocent citizens, that is what we must take to the office and not our religion.

“My intention is clear, not religiosity. My intention is to develop this country, to bring prosperity to our country and I have better qualification, better track records, better exposure, better vision than any of my mates.

“When the shortlisted names came, I looked at the characters on the list, their background and everything and here is somebody (Kassim Shetimma) who is so brilliant, so committed, who, during the crisis in Borno protected Christians,” he said.

China’s former Minister of Justice sentenced to de@th for taking bribes worth $16million

A former justice minister, Fu Zhenghua has been sentenced to de@th for corruption involving $16 million, with a two-year reprieve, by a court in China.

According to AAnews, 67-year-old Fu was found guilty by the Intermediate People's Court of Changchun in northeast China's Jilin province. The de@th sentence can be commuted after two years in prison, the court ruling stated.

Fu who served as justice minister between March 2018 and April 2020 was accused of “taking advantage” of his position between 2005 and 2021, including accepting bribes totalling more than 117 million yuan (about $16.76 million) and “bending the law for personal gains.” According to the report, the court stripped Fu of his political rights for life and confiscated all of his personal property.

“After the two-year reprieve for his de@th sentence, Fu's sentence can be commuted to life in prison in accordance with the law, but no further reduction or parole shall be given to him,” according to the court ruling, as quoted by the Chinese public broadcaster CGTN.

The court found that Fu had concealed evidence involving a suspected serious crime committed by his brother Fu Weihua while serving as head of the Beijing public security bureau between 2014 and 2015. “This concealment allowed Fu Weihua to avoid prosecution for a long time,” the court stated in its verdict.

“The sum of bribes Fu had taken was huge, and he committed particularly serious crimes, which caused a heavy loss to the interests of the state and people and also had a particularly bad social impact,” it added. However, court noted that Fu who was assigned to the Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the National Committee of the CPPCC after having served as justice minister last year, received a “lenient sentence” as he “confessed to all his crimes and pled guilty during the investigation, provided clues for important cases, and had been coo

Power supply has improved tremendously under Buhari’s administration — Femi Adesina

Presidential aide Femi Adesina on Tuesday said the power situation in Nigeria has improved under the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Adesina made the comment when he fielded questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today, maintaining that the situation has improved when compared to what was obtainable in the past. He explained that the government’s agreement reached with Siemens has resulted in some transformers and power equipment coming to Nigeria as part of a bid to ensure a better power supply.

“Nigerians can’t say there has been no improvement in the supply of electricity since the inception of this administration. I just told you that some transformers came into the country under the Siemens deal recently. That doesn’t tantamount to saying there is no movement, there is some movement and it will translate to better power for the country.

In some parts of the country, Nigerians are experiencing better electricity supply and it will get better. We have an agreement with Siemens which is making progress now. It was slow at some point but for some weeks, we have seen transportation of different types of transformers and electrical equipment coming into the country. I can assure you there is progress.

President Buhari is determined that before he leaves office in 2023, there will be significant progress in delivering electricity and power to Nigerians, and whatever it takes to do it, he would do,” Femi Adesina said.

Nigeria’s public debt defies gravity as it rises to an all-time high of N42.3 Trillion

The Debt Management Office (DMO) said Nigeria’s total public debt stock, which was N41.60 trillion ($100.07 billion) in March, rose to N42.84 trillion (103.31 billion dollars) by June.

According to a statement obtained from DMO’s website on Tuesday, the total debt represents the domestic and external debt stocks of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), the 36 State Governments and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
It said that while the foreign component of the debt remained at the same level of N16.61 trillion (39.96 billion dollars), the local component increased to N26.23 trillion (63.24 billion dollars).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the local component of the country’s borrowings was N24.98 trillion (60.1 billion dollars) as at March 30.
The DMO said that a larger percentage of the external debts were concessional and semi-concessional loans. “Over 58 per cent of the external debt stock are concessional and semi-concessional loans.

“They were obtained from multilateral lenders such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Afrexim and African Development Bank, and bilateral lenders including Germany, China, Japan, India and France. The total domestic debt stock increased from N24,98 trillion (60.1billion dollars) in March to N26.23 trillion (63.24 billion dollars) in June.

This is due to new borrowings by the FGN to part-finance the deficit in the 2022 Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) Act, as well as new borrowings by state governments and the FCT,” the DMO said.

It said that the total public Debt-to-GDP ratio remained within limits, at 23.06 per cent, while Debt-Service-to-Revenue was still high. “The Debt-to-GDP as at June 30, was 23.06 per cent compared to the ratio of 23.27 as at March 30. It remains within Nigeria’s self-imposed limit of 40 per cent.

He said the 40 impounded trailers were contravened around Ijora, Costain, Breweries, and Ajegunle Park by the Ijora Mobil Road area of Iganmu in Lagos.

It has no nutritional value – FG set to ban ‘Kpomo’ to grow the economy

The federal government says it is proposing legislation to ban the consumption of animal skin, locally known as ponmo, in the country to revive tanneries.

Muhammad Yakubu, director-general, Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria, said this in Abuja on Sunday. He said the litigation was necessary to revive the comatose leather industry in the country.

He said the habit of eating animal skin, which has no nutritional value, should be stopped to save the industry and boost the nation’s economy. The director-general added that the institute, in collaboration with stakeholders in the industry, would approach the national assembly and state governments to bring out legislation banning “ponmo” consumption.

“To the best of my knowledge, Nigerians are the only people in the world that overvalue skin as food, after all, Ponmo has no nutritional value. At one point, there was a motion before the two chambers of the national assembly, it was debated but I don’t know how the matter was thrown away,” he said.

According to him, the consumption of animal skin is partly responsible for the present comatose state of tanneries in Nigeria. He also said the current National Leather Policy had addressed some fundamental problems of the sector.
“If we get our tanneries, our footwear and leather production working well in Nigeria, people will hardly get pomo to buy and eat. When implemented fully, it would turn around most of the comatose tanneries and ginger greater output in production.”

Yakubu appealed to stakeholders to support the legislation and the national leather policy to revive the sector.
